Silicon Valley Aquarium Society Meeting This Saturday, September 6th

Author: svasannouncements

Please join us this Saturday for another great meeting of the Silicon
Valley Aquarium Society. Our originally scheduled speaker, Art North,
has had a family emergency and will not be speaking. Our thoughts are
with him during a difficult time. We wish him and his family well.

We are very happy to have Max Gillis speaking to us with a brand new
world premiere presentation. He will present "The Magnificent
Sharpshooting Archerfish". He will show us how to set up and maintain
a habitat for the 2 most common archerfish species. If you've never
seen an archer shoot a cricket from a vine, you're in for a treat! I
really hope there's some video of that. I can't wait to see it.

Max was introduced to the aquarium hobby when his older brother gave
him a 10 gallon starter kit for his 10th birthday. He started with
common fish like tiger barbs, but soon moved on to cichlids and
killifish. A Red Texas cichlid spurred his interest in more unusual
fish. His search for more and more unique oddballs led him to his most
recent project, a 55-gallon archerfish tank.

As usual our speaker will start at 7:30. Come early to check-in for
the auction and bowl show, and to order food. We meet at the Round
Table Pizza 4400 Stevens Creek Blvd. in San Jose.

Do you scour the web and your local fish stores for weird or rare
fish? Are you and your local fish store manager on a first name basis
because you order fish the store doesn't stock whenever you have
pocket money? Are you just interested in the unusual? Well this month
we have the speaker for you. Steve Ehrlich will talk about weird and
oddball fish as well as his experiences in the fish industry. This
should be a talk we'll all remember for a long time.

As usual our speaker will start at 7:30. Come early to order food,
and check in for the Bowl Show and Auction. The bowl show is open to
all kinds of fish. A raffle will follow the auction. We meet at the
Round Table Pizza 4400 Stevens Creek Blvd in San Jose.

Please remember that no outside food or drink (except food for babies)
is allowed. The last time I attended a meeting I found an empty beer
bottle and had to take it outside to dispose of it. If the restaurant
catches us with outside food we could lose our reservation
permanently. If an inspector catches us with outside liquor the
restaurant could lose its license. Please be good citizens.

Celebrate the weird with us on Saturday!

This month we have a great speaker, Bob Fenner. He has been a fish
enthusiast his entire life. He has written several books and is a
major contributor to WetWebMedia. He specializes in saltwater
fishkeeping and conservation. He has planned a wonderful talk for us
titled "3 Factors That Contribute to Fish Health". I understand that
he will have several other talks available as well and we might even
get to vote on a different topic. That would be a first for our club!

Speaking of voting. It's that time again. We have several spots on our
Board of Directors up for election this month. If you would like to
run for office, see anyone currently on the board and get your name
added to the list.

A Query about Wardley's Pond "TEN" pellets,..

A Query about Wardley's Pond "TEN" pellets,...

A streetperson, a long-time friend of mine, who originally got me into
keeping freshwater fish years ago, by giving me my first two tanks, a
ten and then a 30 gallon 'Bow' tank [I now have 9 tanks up and running,
with many others sitting dry, that people had thrown out, has just gave
me an unopened, 3 pound plastic bag of Wardley's Pond Ten Pellets, and I
was wondering if anyone would recommend my feeding them to any of the
following fish species:
Corydoras catfish; Plecos; Bala sharks; Clown Loachs; Betta splendens;
and some Black Widow Tetras. Thank you. TTFN,...Pax Vobiscum,...~Dean.
