The Administration team develops and maintains Analytical and Administration applications within the Web of Knowledge, a web-based product sold by the Academic and Government strategic business unit within Scientific business. As a junior software engineer, you can get involved in the development, design and support of leading edge Web applications and online solutions. Our dynamic environment offers opportunities to be involved in all phases of applications development including utilizing different programming languages, building and testing code and working with leading edge technologies that you haven%%27t experienced in a classroom. Under direct supervision, performs any of the following tasks: * Design and develops software products and tools. * Develop system test plans and evaluate results. * Prepare, evaluate and maintain program documentation. * Report task status. * Meet project deliverables. * Participate in code reviews. * Fix reported bugs in new applications and maintain existing applications. * Ensure adherence to all applicable standards. * Test software in multiple phases of the development cycle. * Research current industry software tools and technologies. * High School Diploma or equivalent. * Pursuing a Bachelor%%27s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related IT discipline. * 1+ years experience on Web-specific development. * 1+ years experience demonstrated experience with Perl, CGI, and Java. * Must have a demonstrated track record of working effectively with technology and proven track record of ability to deliver complex software offerings. * Knowledge of XML and related technologies. * Knowledge of Internet web development in a Unix/Linux server environment. * Prior development experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies a plus. * Experience using UML, RUP and/or other applicable Object Oriented modeling, analysis and design techniques a major plus. * Basic knowledge of Unix/Linux and SQL commands. * Programming Languages and Skills — Perl, Java, JSP, JavaScript, XML, XSLT, CGI, SQL, HTML, CSS. * Working knowledge of Unix Tool Sets. * Software —Apache Web Server, mod_perl, Tomcat 5.x, Eclipse, Ant, Subversion/CVS a plus. * Experience with JUNIT, JSP Tags, and EJB a plus. * Experience developing in the Apache Struts Web Application framework a major plus. * A proactive, strong team player who is able to work well among and across other teams. * Strong attention to detail and a positive attitude. * Demonstrable strong problem solving and analytical skills. * A self-starter who is not afraid to ask for help. * History of academic excellence with strong written and oral communication skills. * Demonstrates an eagerness to obtain domain knowledge in order to effectively leverage technical qualifications.
