Whites to become minority in U.S. by 2050
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Non-Hispanic whites will become a minority in the
United States by 2050, with immigrants and their children driving 82 percent
of U.S. population growth in coming years, a new study said on Monday.
The U.S. population will grow to 438 million in 2050 from 296 million in
2005 if current population trends continue, the Pew Research Center study
found.
Non-Hispanic whites would account for 47 percent of the total in 2050, it
concluded.
By that time, one in every five Americans will be a foreign-born immigrant,
compared to one in eight in 2005.
"Of the 117 million people added to the population in this period due to the
effect of new immigration, 67 million will be the immigrants themselves and
50 million will be their U.S.-born children or grandchildren," the study
said.

Obama's friends - not to be found
I thought this all along. Why isn't anybody standing up for Barack Obama in
his time of need?. The last two weeks have been pitiful for the man.
Everybody seemed to just stand back willing to watch to see if he would
implode. With "friends" like these... At any rate, this is from Daniel
Henninger in the Wall Street Journal:
At Barack Obama's darkest hour, not one prominent ally came forward to
support him. Everyone abandoned Everyman.
No prominent black clergyman came forth to make even the simple point that
Jeremiah Wright's notion of the "black church" is but one point on a
spectrum of faith. Rev. Wright, now written off as a virtual nut case, got
more support from black clergymen than did Obama.

The Unintended Consequences of 'Same Sex Marriage'
WASHINGTON, DC (Inside Catholic) - America's position on homosexual activity
has radically changed over the past few decades.
Fifty years ago, every state criminalized homosexual acts under "sodomy
laws." As recently as 1986, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality
of such laws.
In 2003 there were still 13 states that criminalized homosexual acts (though
the laws were rarely enforced). That year, however, the Supreme Court ruled
these laws unconstitutional. Today, laws are used to protect rather than
prohibit homosexual activities.
The supreme courts in California and Connecticut are about to decide whether
same-sex couples have a right to marry in those states. Massachusetts
already granted homosexuals that right.
Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New Hampshire all have civil unions,
which are similar to marriage, but activists in those states are already
pointing to deficiencies and pushing for full recognition of gay marriage.

Obama No
By Adolph Reed Jr., May 2008 Issue
I’ve never been an Obama supporter. I’ve known him since the very
beginning of his political career, which was his campaign for the seat
in my state senate district in Chicago. He struck me then as a vacuous
opportunist, a good performer with an ear for how to make white
liberals like him. I argued at the time that his fundamental political
center of gravity, beneath an empty rhetoric of hope and change and
new directions, is neoliberal.
His political repertoire has always included the repugnant stratagem
of using connection with black audiences in exactly the same way Bill
Clinton did—i.e., getting props both for emoting with the black crowd
and talking through them to affirm a victim-blaming “tough loveâ€
message that focuses on alleged behavioral pathologies in poor black
communities. Because he’s able to claim racial insider standing, he
actually goes beyond Clinton and rehearses the scurrilous and
ridiculous sort of narrative Bill Cosby has made infamous.

Girl Formerly in Vegetative State Gives Abuse Testimony
Last winter, just as the state's highest court was about to rule that a girl
in an "irreversible vegetative state" should be removed from life support,
14-year-old Haleigh Poutre started to breathe on her own.
Haleigh, who spent the past two years at a pediatric rehabilitation hospital
in Brighton, Mass., suffered a near-fatal head injury in September 2005.
Communicating with simple words and hand gestures and by spelling out full
sentences by pointing to alphabet letters on a board Haleigh in December
described to police the intense physical abuse she allegedly suffered at the
hands of her adoptive mother and stepfather, Holli and Jason Strickland, The
Boston Globe reported on Tuesday.
Incidentally, Haleigh's sister, Samantha Poutre, has given police a new
statement about Haleigh's injury, which put her in a coma. Samantha
initially told investigators that Haleigh was practicing a back flip when
she hit her head on a basement pipe, according to defense lawyers.

Seminole County school workers ordered to speak English only
When Carolina Jurado moved to the United States from Panama several years
ago, she knew English would become a part of her daily life.
But she never thought she would be forbidden to speak her native Spanish.
Jurado had worked for a year at Crystal Lake Elementary School in Lake Mary
before a supervisor ordered her and fellow Hispanics on the cafeteria staff
in September to stop speaking their native language on the job.
From then on, it would be English-only in the kitchen, based on a Seminole
County school-district workplace policy that applied only to kitchen
workers.
They could speak Spanish only when taking breaks or to help a
Spanish-speaking customer.
Jurado's supervisor presented her with a piece of paper with the rule typed
across the page and a space for her signature below.
She refused to sign it.

Eminent Psychiatrist Says Homosexuality is a Disorder that Can be Cured
Says studies show 70-80 percent chance that child adopted by homosexuals
will develop same tendencies
By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman
BUENOS AIRES, May 1, 2008 ( LifeSiteNews.com) - The eminent Spanish
psychiatrist Enrique Rojas gave a speech yesterday in Buenos Aires declaring
that homosexuality is "a clinical process that has an etiology, pathogeny,
treatment, and cure".
Speaking at the Buenos Aires International Book Fair about his book
"Goodbye, Depression", Rojas characterized homosexual orientation as a
"disorder" rather than an illness, and stated his opinion that 95%% of cases
are caused by environmental factors, according to the Spanish news service
Terra.
The disorder, according to Rojas, is the result of an absent father,
overweening mother, or sexual abuse in childhood.

Obama calls for windfall tax on oil profits as gas prices soar
Apr 25, 2008
WASHINGTON (AFP) — Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama called
for a windfall tax on oil company profits Friday, as pump prices in
the United States hit a new record high.
"For the well-off in this country, high gas prices are mostly an
annoyance. But to most Americans, they're a huge problem, bordering on
a crisis," he told reporters at a gas station in Indiana, where he is
campaigning.
According to the automobile association AAA, the average price of a
gallon (3.78 liters) of gas reached a record 3.58 dollars Friday.
Obama proposes oil companies be taxed on windfall profits from oil
sold at or above 80 dollars a barrel, and the revenue be used to help
relieve the burden of rising prices on working people, according to
his campaign.

Clinton Adviser Claims Indiana Slur Video Is Conspiracy
May 2, 2008 11:32 AM
A former aide to President Bill Clinton, and current informal adviser
to Sen. Hillary Clinton, expressed outrage and shock on Friday after a
videotape from 1992 surfaced allegedly showing him describing
Indianans as "white n---rs."
Mickey Kantor, who served as campaign chairman during Clinton's 1992
run for the White House and says he has offered help and advice to
Sen. Clinton, insisted that the tape was a fraud and that he was
exploring legal steps against the individual who posted it online.
"I've never used that word in my entire life, ever, under any
circumstance, ever," an angry Kantor told The Huffington Post, citing
his and his parent's work fighting for civil rights. "I have listened
to [the video] and so have you. You can't tell what it is I'm saying
in that second sentence, you can't decipher that."

ALL BUSINESS: Don't count on gas tax cut lowering prices
By RACHEL BECK – 2 hours ago
NEW YORK (AP) — Sure, a gas-tax holiday seems like a good idea, at
first. According to the presidential candidates touting it, it would
yield cheaper gas, which in turn would produce less expensive
packaging, food, etc.
It's trickle down at its best ... until you drive over one of those
super-sized potholes that jolts your car and rattles your teeth.
That's because the idea proposed by presidential candidates John
McCain and Hillary Clinton to ease the federal gas tax would strip the
U.S. government of about $10 billion for roadway and transportation
projects.
And the plan doesn't even guarantee that lower taxes will lead to
lower gas prices. Just the opposite might happen if the tax holiday
spurs more demand for gas at a time when supply is already
constricted.
It's basic economics. But it gets muddled when mixed with politics.
