The cutting of 145 jobs at Dunedin Cadnury's should make up for the rates
increase, Kiwi Saver, and other overheads including pay increases.

Worse still, it's only a matter of time before Farmers can no longer afford
to keep trading in Dunedin. When they rebuilt some years ago, they
should've relocated to cheaper rating zone of the city and where there's
much better free parking for Dunedin consumers.
Not forgetting that Smith City in the city area has already closed it's
doors. One has to wonder how long Power Store can keep trading in an area
where there's bugger all foot traffic around due to a lack of other popular
businesses in that area of the city.
The DCC and Farry are going to be hitting businesses hard with rates
increasing to help fund Farry's dream stadium.
Lets not forget that Hospice is struggling for funds - Dunedin ratepayers
being forced to pay millions towards Farry's new stadium can only put the
boot into the much needed public funding for Otago Hospice.
