  Question of ownership

Author: {-.-}
Date: Feb 29, 2008 15:20

I have a general question regarding the ownership of someone's work.
If you work in a software company and you did some work
at home, at your own leisure, in your own time, not using
any company resources, not getting paid overtime etc. And
you developed a plug-in or gadget for example for your
company's software which you can potentially sell to your
company's clients. The question is, can your company claim
ownership of your work and sell that thingy themselves
that you get nothing ?

I seem to remember a landmark case about an invention or research
made by a former employee that the company is claiming theirs.
Their argument is that it was invented/researched while the person is still
employed hence it was work for the company. I forgot the outcome
of that case.

Thanks !

Well the weekend is going to be shit weather wise, my new Motherboard
doesnt want to power up and I am 200km away from the distributor
so................

A little cruise on the net to see whats neat out there in geeko land.

I purchased a stirling engine kit from Thinkgeek recently
( http://thinkgeek.com ) and was really impressed with the service
ordered on the Thursday night, arrive at my door on the Tuesday morning.

Anyway, love stirlings and it is neat to see NZ is developing products

based on the Stirling but these people have taken it a step further

  Using ext2 in Windows XP?

Author: Craig Shore
Date: Feb 29, 2008 01:18

I got myself a new drive today, so now I need to format and install
it. It's purpose in life will be storing files mostly for sharing on
the network at home.

I'm considering using ext2 under Windows which should give no
limitations under win xp, and give me the flexability to move it
straight into a linux system (either a computer or NAS box) at a later
date should I choose to do so by just plugging it in.

What i'm wondering is, is ext2ifs 100%% safe (or at least as safe as
using NTFS under win xp) for reading and writing?
How would I go about formatting the drive without having to install
Linux bearing in mind it's a SATA drive sitting off a PCI card plugged
into a PC that doesn't have it's own SATA support on the motherboard?

Does it also lock itself onscreen with you? - the window locks itself
in place and can't be moved? till the downlaod completes? even
finding other apps I open don't open correctly -like AdAware takes
over the screen -maybe it's just me in need of a better vid card or
more memory~~

  File encryption

Author: Sticky
Date: Feb 28, 2008 21:35

The various books on Microsoft XP tell me that I can use the NTFS file
encryption from "Advanced Attributes" ("Properties") field to get secure
encryption for documents etc.

Before I dive in and read scads of info about it and get bombed by a
million other security sites I thought I'd ask what others experiences
were /are.

Telecom seperation plan not good enough.

Author: Squiggle

http://www.stuff.co.nz/4420632a13.html

LATEST: The Government has rejected Telecom’s plans to split itself into
three businesses and has told the telecommunications company to try again.

This morning, Communications Minister David Cunliffe said he had asked
Telecom to make changes to its plan, following submissions, from rival
companies and advocacy groups last month, claiming it had serious flaws.

The Government-decreed separation of Telecom into network, wholesale and
retail businesses is scheduled for March 31.
