BRITS GET A TASTE OF BROOKLYN
Down with crumpets and tea, up with Junior's cheesecake. That will be
the battle cry when the 2,000-calorie-a-slice pride of Brooklyn goes
on sale in England next spring under a licensing agreement with
Greencore, the Dublin-based prepared-food giant. "We fell in love with
Junior's cheesecake," said Paul Rhodes, Greencore's managing director,
who tried it while here for a trade show in 2006. After negotiations
and taste tests, Greencore decided to use not only Junior's label but
also most of its original Brooklyn recipe. To please U.K. taste buds,
they'll give the crust a drier, less spongy texture. "They're used to
crusts that are more hard," said Junior's owner, Alan Rosen, who said
the insides would be the same"

Regrettably, I didn't get to the Big Apple on this trip; I was too
enamoured with my Jaguar! Has a sunroof, so who needs a convertible?

Still want to find Bill's Gyros; can't believe they closed
permanently.
