The easiest thing to do may be to EXPORT the application object to an AXT
file,
Do a search and replace on the text substrings so they point to the
alternate locations and then create the object with the other values.
Not the easiest way, bit it would work.
You could also export the registry section to an REG file, do the S&R,
delete the existing reg entries in the app, and then import the REG file.

No, there is no need to apply updates to your PC.
In fact a snapshot taken on a Windows 95 PC is generally perfectly valid for
a Windows XP PC!
One key thing you will want to do, however, is mark most files "Copy if
Newer Version".
This is much more reliable that the "Copy Always" setting which is the
default.

Okay, so I've got two methods I can look at then:
User policy (GPO but associated to users)
Workstation policy (ZEN workstation policy)
to delete the folder.
I suppose I could even do a login script or something too.

Does it matter if you change the version number within the application
object?

Would you mind exporting the application to an axt and sending it to me to
look at.

Yes, but only if you use an *older* Agent than ZENworks 6.5 SP2,
the TID says this is "fixed" in 6.5 SP2 and 7.

No problem at all.

Hi!
We have an application that can run directly from server by runninn an
*.exe-file.
Im distribute the Shortcut to those who will use this progrogram using ZfD.
Those who dont login with Novell Client can still access this Shortcut by
login to Middle Tier Server in Zen-Agent, but they get error about
accessing file on server. Of course they can't access this file without
login with Novell Client, but i thougt i could set filerights in
Zen-object.
Do all users need to login using Novell Client? Or can they use CIFS?
I tried to set "Rights to files and folder", but my settings is cleared
when i access the app-obj again. Why cant i set rights to files and folder?
We use NW6.5 SP6
ZfD7.0.1 (SP1).

Rolf,
Thanks for your speedy reply.
The TID explains most info; I was asking "generally" as I hadn't explained
my scenario fully.
My MSI can only be installed by an Administrator ("run as system" does not
give the same rights), hence if a verify (even for the CU section) is
performed, an error will appear (not enough rights to perform action).
There is no user section to distribute from the MSI.
The TID suggests it is because the NAL is associated by USERS (through an
OU), if the USER GUID is missing, then the NAL will force the MSI VERIFY
for user specific portions.
The TID seems to suggest that if I change the app to WORKSTATION
association, then the NAL will never check or distribute a GUID to the CU
section of the registry, and in turn not check for the GUID presence and
will not need to verify.
Does that sound right?

Hi all,
I'm really just wanting a confirmation of what I think is happening in the
following scenario. Can anyone say if they thing the following is correct?
BASIC SETUP:
-------------------------
- I have a NAL application object, which uses an MSI. It has a path to
file, so that it can launch the app if it is already ditributed.
- A user runs this object for the first time on a clean image, it is
distributed. The program also starts.
- The NAL object GUID goes into both the LOCAL MACHINE and CURRENT USER
registry.
-------------------------
- Another user comes onto this machine, having never run the same object
before.
- The GUID of the object is now only present in the LOCAL MACHINE
resgistry section.
- The user launches the NAL.
-------------------------

Zen7 SP1 HP1, on Win2K3.
How would I force NALDESK or NALEXPLD to refresh info from the tree?
I need to push a bunch of things out, and waiting for users to login
again to get the changes is too slow.
(The distribute randomly stuff is turned off. We had that on at first,
misunderstanding what it means, but that has been off for a bout a week).
Set the Launcher setting of refresh rate to 3600 (1 hour), but how would
I force a refresh?
I was thinking a policy added that calls an executable with acommand
line switch, but there does not seem to be any command line switches to
force a NAL refresh.
I was thinking a policy to call naldesk /u to unload it, then load
naldesk, but is there any better way?
I want to use a policy since it can be event, or time driven...
Unless there is a better way?
