running zwsreg.exe as an app object or schedule that runs everytime nal refreshes.

Hi,

I'm not a 'heavy' novell user. I do the lower level things. But
here's my problem that I can't for the life of me figure out.

Our workstation registration process runs on login. It will remove the

workstation every 40 days. It is a large manufacturing fascility.
Many of the tools don't allow the workstations to log out and back in
within that time frame.

I'm trying to figure out a way to 'schedule' the zwsreg.exe to run as a

normal user in the background and unregister if it's registered, then
register the workstation so we can remote connect to them without
running into workstations that have become 'unregistered'. I can run
the zwsreg from the command line easy enough. But it seems there are
problems with either mapping or file rights when i try to put it in a
batch file or run it right as an app object. Has anyone ran into this
situation before and found a solution?

I'd have no problem I guess using the workstation scheduler, but that
doesn't have rights when a user is logged in to register :(

Thanks,
Bill w.

It was my mistake. Disk was out of space and the script I was running did
create log-files.

We just sent out the GW 7 client - here is a heads up - the MSI file that
ships is really an MSI created with Install Shield - that requires a
certain version of Install Shiled files on the workstation. We used ZEN
to push out the setup.exe ffrom a network cause it would automatically
detect the need for the Install Shield files and run that update to the
workstation first. We used the setup.cfg to customize the install, and
ZEN logging to track the process.

No, it's part of the Workstation Policy Package in ZenWorks. You should have
a Workstation Policy Package associated with your workstations.
You can find out which (or if) policy package is associated with a
workstation by selecting the workstation in ConsoleOne and going to the
ZenWorks tab, then the Effective Policies package.
This will let you see all the Zenworks policies that are effective on that
object. Towards the bottom you will see Workstation Imaging policy and
Workstation Inventory. Is there something next to it? If so, that's the
package that is associated with you machine. (I make one general workstation
package and associate it to the whole OU, then associate specific ones to
groups or objects).

If you edit THAT policy _package_, there is a policy in there called Novell
iPrint Policy, where you can make all the settings for iPrint.

How do I create an iPrint policy? Is that just an NT Computer Printer
setting in a workstation policy?

I can't access iPrint from ConsoleOne, and I can't make policies in
iManager....so i feel a bit lost...

Huh, really. Thank you for that clarification.

Alright, I'm working on a Netware 6.5, Zenworks 6.5 environment here.
I'm NOT the Novell guy for the network, but our Novell guy is a new
one, and he doesn't have much experience with Zenworks. I've been
trying for forever to get this thing working and it won't....here's the
deal:

I work at a College campus, and i've got a pay-for-print system that
i'm working on implementing in the Library for the 16 lab computers.
I've got the printer set up through iManager in iPrint. I've been
trying to get it to push that printer to that set of workstations, but
to no avail. At first, I tried pushing it to the wks through RPM, but
then i read on here yesterday that RPM only pushes to users and user
groups. But I've also got an Application object that i created with
snAppshot that i set to force run that is supposed to install that
printer and default it.....i don't understand why this isn't working at
all....

I just want to know if there's some way i can manually make it push it
out...cuz i don't know how the Force Run setting on the object works as
far as how it's scheduled. I just don't know how all this Zenworks
stuff works...

Details are between ZFD4 and ZFD6 would be the same.

There is no doubt that Unsecure user would work for this. A Dos App would
not be programmed to do a group membership test. SYSTEM would give the
physical rights needed.

There are a few things you will need to do to get this to work.

1) Make sure the Workstation Object has proper permissions to where the
executable runs. (If its located on a server)
2) If the Executable will need access to a Mapped Drive, you will need to
map this in the pre-launch script.
Under XP user mapped drives are not available when running with elevated
rights.

However, it is likely that not even SYSTEM rights would be needed. My guess
is that the dos program is attempting to write to some location such as
C:\TEMP which the users do not have rights. You could configure the app
object to grant permissions to this folder. Tools like FILEMON/REGMON can
be used to help see what actions are being blocked due to lack of access.
