Hi Everyone

Sorry if this looks too silly.

I need to include services in my firewall that I could ideally
configure thru Yast Control center in SuSe 10.

I am not able to access my friends windows machine thru the network
using samba. It would say 'Could not connect to host for smb://frensMachine.
So I disable the firewall and I could connect, I enable the firewall I
am blocked again.

So I look at the firewall setting. They have the configuration listed
like this.
Start-Up - Set the start-up behavior
Interfaces - All known network interfaces are listed here. And they
all are listed as 'Configured in - External Zone'.
Masquerading - Masquerading hides your internal network from external
networks
Allowed Services - By default, the system is only protected from
external zones. I thought this is where I should mention the services.

I can set what services are allowed for the zones "External, Internal
or DMZ".

Now Internal Zone by definition is the private network, in most cases
the LAN. Ideally this is the place I guess I should set it. But I
cannot add or remove any service here since all the services are
already allowed and disabled to make any change. Make sense that all
the services are allowed inside the internal network.

But my friend cannot access my machine thru the internal network till
the firewall is turned off. So I tried to include Samba Server as a
service to allow in External Zone and then again in DMZ but both did
not do the trick.

I dont see many options to set here, could someone pls chime in.
