Can't Open Files with CIFS Connection to OES NetWare

I am running SLED 10 (which rocks!)against a NW 6.5.5 server with CIFS.
CIFS has been in place for some time, and works great with our Windows
PCs. I can attach to the NW server using Samba from SLED, and copy files
to and from the server. However, I cannot open a file directly from the
server. It works with SuSE 9.3 and Windows, but not with SLED 10. Any
thoughts? I have the Novell Cleint, so it isn't critical, just an
annoyance because "it should work!"

TIA

Is this an executable or a doc?
What do you see if you run ls -l on the file you want to open?
