I downloaded SLED 10.1 64 bit DVD last week and did not experience any
compatibility issues with the HP 6320 notebook, which has been certified
for Linux by HP. Despite having installed the GNU C++ compiler, it did not
show up under either Gnome or KDE. I checked twice under the software
installation option to ensure that the GNU compiler had been installed. I
switched to KDE in user mode, and as before, the development category was
missing under user and root access.
Since I much prefer KDE to the Gnome interface, I would also like to switch
the root access to that interface. Although I was able to switch to KDE for
the user mode, root remains Gnome.
I also very much prefer the look and feel of SuSE 9.2 Professional to SLED.
SLED, especially in Gnome, is far too simplistic for my taste. I suspect
that SLED is geared to less computer literate business users, however, I
recommend that some thought be given to a variant more suitable for more
computer literate users.
