Key Technologies

Working within the larger identity and open source communities, the
Bandit project will address common identity management requirements

WALTHAM, Mass. -- June 12, 2006 -- Novell today announced the creation
of Bandit(TM), a groundbreaking open source project with a charter to
unify disparate identity systems and provide a consistent approach to
securing and managing identity. The identity services in development by
the Bandit community are open source and will work with existing
industry standards such as WS- * and Liberty Federation, and open source
projects including Eclipse Higgins. Novell has already contributed
significant engineering resources and code to jump start this effort.
Ultimately, the goal of the Bandit project is to provide organizations
with a consistent approach to enterprise identity management challenges
such as secure, role-based access and regulatory compliance reporting.

BrainShare '08 starts today in Salt Lake City. It's a time we try to
gather as many of our volunteer SysOps as we can so they can learn, have
fun, meet each other, have fun, talk to the Novell engineers, have fun,
evangelize the forums, have fun, handle technical questions face to
face, and last but not least, have fun.

There probably won't be as much SysOp coverage in the forums this week,
but when the crew returns to their homes next week, they'll be even more
informed and ready to tackle the issues in the forums.

You may have noticed that our forums have a new look on the web. Our
vBulletin interface is now the main web interface. Thanks to all those
that provided feedback while we were in the "beta" testing phase with this.

Forums can still be accessed via NNTP. See the FAQ link (under Quick
Links)on the web.

We still have one major task to complete which is the integration of
Novell login. It's almost there, we're just working through some NNTP and
domain name issues with our configuration.

Be aware that on Saturday January 5th, Our IS folk will be upgrading some
of Novell's L4 switches and doing firmware updates on our SAN arrays so
there may be times of outages for our web applications and services.
