NWMKDE.NLM using large amounts of RAM

Author: Brad
Date: Jan 8, 2007 10:17

Hello,

Server Info:
hp DL380G3 2.4GHZ Dual Xeon with 3.0 GB of RAM
Netware 6.0 SP5 - apart of a 2 node Cluster
GroupWise 7.01

I've been monitoring the loaded NLMs on our mail server. The NWMKDE.NLM is
using 416 MB of RAM - that seems a bit excessive - what do you guys think?
The NSS.NLM is using 166 MB of RAM - is that to much? NWMKDE.NLM running
on the File and Print server (the 2nd node in the Cluster) is only using 1
MB of RAM. The NSS.NLM is using the same amount on both servers. Both
servers have the same version of the NLMs loaded. I think this may be
causing the server to mysteriously reboot/abend itself. Is this a memory
leak, or some sort of memory fragmentation issue? Any suggestions?

NLM Version Info:

NWMKDE.NLM - v7.90.230.000
NSS.NLM - v3.05 Build 670 MP

Thanks!
Brad

  Netware 6.5 SP5 Abend

Author: Frank8ten

Greetings,

One of our servers abended on 1/3/07 due to a problem with the TCP.NLM.
The server was rebooted over the weekend and then abended again this
morning, referencing a CPU Hog Detected by Timer issue.

Any assistance provided will be appreciated.

Frank

Page Fault Abend in COMN.NSS, NW65sp6

Author: tkahler
Date: Jan 8, 2007 09:29

BACKGROUND
I have a client with a HP ML370g3 server that had been running NW 6.0
for quite a long time without any real problems. Around the
Thanksgiving holiday of '06 we upgraded the server to NW 6.5sp5, and
upgraded the hardware to a ML370g4. The new server is faster and has
more memory, and we were hoping for a slight speed boost. Shortly after
the upgrade, once the users returned from the holiday break, the server
started to abend weekly. The error is a Page Fault in Process Server
xxxx in module COMN.NSS. When the error occurs the server loses the
ability to write to the drives, so there is no data in the abend log,
only the IML contains a record of the abend. Of note, when the server
abends it doesn't recover. It sits there with a black screen, and the
cursor blinking in the upper left...

  recurring abend - nw65 sp6

I replied to another post with more or less the same info, sorry for the
repost but wanted to make sure I get this problem resolved.

We have a nw65 server recently updated from sp4a to sp6. Since the
upgrade the server abends about every two days. I've tried the iprint
update iprntnw65sp6c.exe, server keeps abending. From all the other posts
I've read, I suspect libc, but wanted to confirm before I try a beta patch
that was just updated again and probably will be updated a few more times
before a production version is released. Am I correct in assuming the
nwlib6j patch addresses this abend?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Re: NetWare 6.5 sp6 Cache memory allocator out of available memory

Author: mmi_nospam

This boat is getting crowded. Two of our servers are showing the same
cache memory allocator problems, despite having 4 GB of RAM. They are
also abending roughly every other day. We had similar problems after
applying sp4, but then they were solved after we implemented the steps in
the TID addressing cache memory issues. One of the steps was to add a
switch to server.exe in c:\autoexec.bat, -u with some long number after it.

Is the -u switch not required now with sp6? I've tried removing the
switch and restarting the server, but we've still gotten abends and cache
memory problems. Do the servers need to be "retuned" now that sp6 has
been installed? I heard someone mention something about hyperthreading --
should hyperthreading be disabled?

Here is the start of the abend log entry:
