  Migration utility

Author: albenedict

I would like to migrate my 5.1 server to different hardware. I am
concerned the migration utility will fail and will leave both servers
unusable. Thanks. Adam.

Netware 5.1 and dual core processor

Author: Ted Brand
Date: Jan 8, 2007 10:10

I saw a post above relating to Netware 5.0 and dual core processors. I am
ordering an IBM X3400 server and the supplier, a Novell Gold Partner, gave
me this information.

"4. In the end this is a dual core server (upgradeable to two processors) at
1.6GHz which will perform at the same performance as the x346 with 3.4GHz
processor. Dual core makes the difference. All other specs are the same."

Does the recommendation to turn off hyperthreading in the BIOS from the post
above apply to Novell 5.1 as well as Novell 5.0? If so, a dual core
processor is of no use to me, right? Am I correct in assuming that all I
will be getting is a processor running at the equivalent of 1.6GHz. It was
mentioned above that "It would be possible, but you don't want to do that --
disable
hyperthreading at the BIOS level." Barry, if you are monitoring this thread
could you please elaborate a little.

This whole upgrade thing is starting to drive me crazy. Nothing is simple
it seems.

Thanks for your help.

After installing Novell Client 4.9 or higher, the workstaions no longer
get Group policies from our 2003 Servers. With Novell client 4.83
installed on workstaions the Group policies are applied. How do you
configure 4.90 or higher to have Group Policies applied??

Remote access to server via the internet (simply)

Author: webmaster
Date: Jan 5, 2007 04:18

I'm running Netware 5.12 with 15 XP worksations and one adsl modem on a
hub/switch which is configured via one of the workstations, not the
server. I would like to be able to log onto my server through the
internet from another location as if I were at work. I originally
installed the network but am a self confessed novice really. I have
spent days trolling through the novell site and I think I have
established that I need to use 'novell internet access server', I have
found setup insructions and things but the terminology used is causing me
to lose the will to live. What I would really like is for somebody to
explain (in idiot terms) what the concept is and the simplest way to
achieve my goal. I don't want to do anything clever with it, just to be
able to log in from home via...

Directory Services cannot start after hang up

Author: fredau
Date: Dec 31, 2006 20:49

Hello,

I am using Netware 5 sp2a. The file server disk has been full and hung
up. I switched off the power and on again. It cannot start Directory
Services. I'd tried DSrepair, Vrepaire but failed. I cannot even remove
the DS and rebuild it again. It is the single server, could I just
reinstall it to get all my files back?

Could anybody help me?
