Creating a backup 4.11 server for the inevitable crash...

Author: girbeaud

I have a client that wants a "backup server" for his old NW4.11 box.
Apparently all he uses it for is a DaVinci email server on his
non-netware network. He expects that it will die soon & want a spare
that is ready to go when it does.

The new box hardware will be different from the old box & I am not even
sure what that is yet.

Any ideas what would be the best way to do this ?

  Sophos A/V

I was talking to my Sophos salesrep today regarding how much longer
they will continue supporting Netware 4.11.

He says the word from Sophos is "there is no hard time table for the
retirement".

Not quite as good as "forever", but at least the support is still there
for the present.

Set RIGHTS to group from console

To automate some tasks i need to set the group's rights using a console
command or similar (not NWadmin).
I tried RIGHTS.EXE (Ver. 4.22 on ny NW 4.20 server) but it seems that
functioning only for users not groups or context.

Also it seems that RIGHTS.EXE have some problems on dir. names > 8: if i try
to apply the command on a directory with name longer than 8 CHAR i receive
an error message number "899C".

Quick way to set a Novell share to read-only

Author: Alex Hung

We are using Novell Netware 4.11. We've got a share folder with over 5,xxx
sub-folders. In most of the sub-folders, we've filter the access right and
most of them got different access right to different users.

We would like to change all the sub-folders inside this share folder to
read-only so that no only can modify the files/folers inside it. Is there
any quick way to do so?

In the past, the only way we can do is go to the 'Trustee rights' for each
sub-folders and remove the 'W', 'E', 'C', 'M' permission to all user one
by one. It's very time consuming since there's so much sub-folders this
time.

Hope that you can help me.
Thank you very much.

Best Regards,
Alex Hung
