  Re: 4.11 Migration... can't find "tsafs.nlm"

NW4SP9 included TSA311.NLM, TSA312.NLM, TSA400.NLM, TSA410.NLM,
TSA500.NLM, TSADOSP.NLM and TSANDS.NLM. That doesn't mean all these TSAs
run on NetWare 4.11 itself. IT just means that Novell people who put
togather the support pack were lazy and included the whole TSA update
package into the support pack including NLMs for other OS versions.

Re: How do you Verify the Current Code Page?

Author: Marcel Cox

Note that the code page is only an issue if there are special characters
in file names on the source server. The migration wizard ignores the code
page and just copies the file names assuming the same code page on the
source and destination server. If there are non ASCI characters in the
file names, this can lead to special characters suddenly being replaced by
different characters on the destination server. In worst case, the
characters on the destination server might cause the file name to become
inaccessible, though that can be fixed with the NSSCPT.NLM tool.
Generall,y for English speaking countries, this is a non issue.

A few notes:

- TSAFS.NLM only exists on NetWare 6.x. On NetWare 4.11, it is TSA410.NLM
- The option "SMDR new" only exists on NetWare 5.x or higher. On NetWare
4.11, there is nothign to configure for SMDR
- Make sure your error actually talks about the source server and not the
destination server
- Make sure that your destination server has IPX installed and that your
migration workstation has an IPX connection to both the source and
destination servers. If your workstation has an IP connection to the
destination server, then the migration might fail.

Well, the reason could be hardware or software related. The abend shows
that the IDE driver IDEATA.HAM is involved. One of the biggest issues I
can see from the software point of view is that your server seems to be a
completely unpatched server. The latest SP for NetWare 4.11 was SP9. So
you are 9 support packs behind! Installing SP9 would therefore be a strong
recommendation for proceeding. However this would require the server to be
up and stable enough to survive through the SP install. Maybe it's just
the IDEATA.HAM driver that is the main source of problem and you could
manually update that file witht he SP9 version and see if that makes the
server stable enough to apply the full SP9.

Disabling logins for groups of users

Author: Brattex
Date: Oct 15, 2007 03:38

Hi there

We run a university server for users, and we have a group of users who
will need to be prevented access to the main server for a period of a
few hours. I know how to individually disable users, and I know about
a login script command "IF MEMBER of xxxxx" which can force a logoff
once the login has taken place, but is there another way to simply
"disable" a group of users from logging in at all?

Something similar to the DISABLE LOGIN for an individual user - can we
do the same for a GROUP of users in one go, without having to modify
login scripts or the such?

Thanks,
Bryan

From the server console, do:

load install -dsremove

Then go into the directory options and choose the option to remove the
NDS. Ignore any possible login failure. Once you have removed the NDS,
reboot your server and then loadinstall.nlm again, this time without
command line option. Choose again direction options and this time choose
the option to install NDS on the server. Choose the option to create a new
tree and answer the various questions asked.
At the end, you should have a new NDS with just an admin user, but your
data should be accessible once again (to the admin).
