Hello Music Lovers,
Welcome to Series 28 of Later with Jools Holland!
Who have we got to kick of the new series?
The last time MUSE were on Later was way back in 2001. Since then their star
has been in the ascending and after a triumphant headline slot at this
year's Reading & Leeds Festivals I am delighted to welcome them back. They
will be playing tracks from their new number 1 album "Black Holes and
Revelations" for our televisual pleasure.
Bizarrely, the last time Jack White was on the show was also back in 2001 on
the same show as Muse! Anyway, this time around Jack White is back with some
other friends in the form of THE RACONTEURS. Described as a "new band made
up of old friends" they are also joined by Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler
from The Greenhornes. They will be performing tracks from their fantastic
new album "Broken Boy Soldiers" in the Later studio.
This next young lady is only 23. North London girl AMY WINEHOUSE'S debut
album "Frank" won her a Mercury Prize nomination, several Brits nominations,
a MOBO and an Ivor Novello award for Best Contemporary Songwriter. Three
years down the line Amy returns with a new distinctly Motown inspired album
"Back To Black".
Being able to count Stevie Wonder and Prince amongst your fans and having
Kanye West as friend, collaborator and producer, JOHN LEGEND can consider
himself in fine company. He's back with a second album entitled "Once Again"
which has been described as a "pop/soul album fuelled by intelligence,
intuition, sensuality and creativity". I'm very excited about his return to
the studio.
I like introducing you all to new and interesting talent. So making his TV
debut, Belfast born and bred DUKE SPECIAL aka Peter Wilson is a uniquely
talented individual who uses an array of strange instrumentation on his
recordings. Influenced and likened to artists such as Elliott Smith and Tom
Waits, Duke Special will be bringing his modern day music hall extravaganza
direct to your living room.
One of the most successful French bands ever with 18 million album sales
under their belts, GIPSY KINGS came to prominence with huge hits such as
"Bamboleo" and "Volare". Made up of two related families from Arles and
Montpellier in France the band prefer to sing in the Spanish of their
ancestors. Gipsy Kings return with a new album, "Pasajero".
I'll also be talking to DAVE STEWART about his new project Platinum Weird.
MAKE SURE YOU TUNE IN!
FRIDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 11.35pm ON BBC 2
