Hi,
I came across the following:
MID: flpi143.ffdc.sbc.com>
which triggered a 'Spoilers visible!' alert in slrn. I have found the
relevant section of the manual:
http://www.slrn.org/manual/slrn-manual-6.html#spoiler_display_mode
but I am a little puzzled as to what is going on in this message
although I note the entry 6.102 spoiler_char above this that speaks of
"text preceded by a formfeed character".

CTL L (^L) is the spoiler Char. Not sure I get the question. Relevant part of
the post is preceded by:
////////////////////
/ display commands /
////////////////////
^G | Give file name, status, current line number
| and relative position.
The next line begins with the spoiler.

Now I see, said the blind man :-). In my youthful ignorance I have never
seen nor heard of spoiler text before.
But I guess now I have and again I have picked up something else about
slrn (and Usenet) that I did not know before.

Beats SPOILER SPACE since one can never now how much space to use
especially with the ever growing screen sizes these days. Some groups
like book and movie related groups 'require' its use but as whiskers
pointed out, its a dying convention.

Well, at least I finally figured out what those dang lines of
asterisks mean at the bottom of some posts, and how to decrypt them
(ESC ?).
OTOH, I might be making a fool out of myself by getting this reply
wrong.

I spend almost as time figuring out what's wrong with my computer as
I do actually using it. Networked software, especially, requires
frequent updates and maintenance, all of which gets in the way of
doing routine work. (Stoll 1995)

Just to lessen the pain of having to press this key combination every
time in a single message with multiple spoilers (as in the OP) I have
added the following to .slrnrc:
%% Keep the display still, and reveal all spoilers:
set spoiler_display_mode 2
http://www.slrn.org/manual/slrn-manual-6.html#spoiler_display_mode

I am very grateful that I am not the only one initially quite puzzled by
this :-)
