OK, not to bad. forgot to adjust the install dir so I had to:
$ hash -p /usr/local/bin/slrn slrn
and had to add:
export NNTPSERVER=
to .bashrc as Debian handles this differently (which means Ubuntu does as
well) Debian's handling of this screwed me up when I cam from Mandriva.
(dpkg-reconfigure slrn takes care of this in Deb* based distros)
Oh, and had to comment out:
compatible_charsets iso-8859-1
in slrnrc although I don't even remember why I had it there ;)
seems svn is back up as svn update returned
[12:15:06][J:0][sinner@~/downloads/programs_source/compiled/slrn]$ svn update
At revision 281.
Just figured I would post an update.
So far, so good and I am happy :)

Good job. I've destroyed the References and changed the Subject also,
to make it easier on everybody, but I had to do it by hand. What is
"goog" and how do you use it to get rid of these pesky Subjects and
threading that so plague teh Usenet?

Confirmed.
Like me, you seem to have an emergency news server set up.

40tude has decided I can't post a reply to someone for no apparent reason.
When I try to reply to a fairly normal post, with a very normal 4 line
reply, I get this (of course, 40tude won't let me copy it so I could easily
paste it here):
Posting article failed: 437 Too long line in header 1040 bytes; (news)
(Finished)
What does this mean? I don't even have control of how long a header is,
40tude creates the header. So how could I make it a shorter header? Where
would I do to do that?

Since I located this/my thread via goog: + ,
and goog looses the thread ID anyway, I'm changing the subject,
and I'll reply to multiple respondents here.

I believe someone already refuted that claim of yours; besides if
you restricted line-len [< 76] & 'did' the contents instead of the
packaging, I'd take you more seriously.

Are you collecting names ?
