Perhaps, by this post, I can keep others from going through some
frustrations. Keep in mind, I am another happy Linux user; this may not
benefit those poor Windows folks.
I, and others, just completed banging heads on walls trying to figure
out why "checking news..." would suddenly require nearly 60 seconds to
transpire either on a local spool or DSL ISP connection with versions
0.9.8.1pl1-28 on Debian Etch and just complied 0.9.9. Something in my
now very old .jnewsrc is amiss. After renaming the file and creating a
new one, "checking news..." is instantaneous. Lighting quick!
File size information ... if it makes a difference in the eyes of those
people to whom I am indebted for making, and continuing to develop,
slrn:

Hi,
I was wondering if there was any general consensus of the best way of
presenting 'verbatim' text in a newspost? I am aware that slrn has
? exclusively the ability to present as follows:
#v+
--- src/version.c (revision 294)
+++ src/version.c (working copy)
@@ -43,7 +43,8 @@
#include "art.h"
#include "snprintf.h"
#v-
and manipulate this with { or [ according to .slrnrc settings but this
would be lost on other less able news clients.
Any thoughts?
Andrew

Am using Xnews.
What's the easiest way to move from article to article IN DATE ORDER
within one particular thread whilst the display is showing a threaded
view?
----
The following works but is tedious and needs repeating if I return
after exiting.
(1) use subject filter to show just the one particular thread
(2) sort articles by date or article number
(3) rapidly view each article in date order using "." for get next
article (Xnews will remember sequence of viewed articles)
(4) use ALT LEFTARROW to go back thru all articles to the first one
(5) change the view to threaded
(6) set all articles to unread
(7) view an article then afterwards use ALT RIGHTARROW to jump to the
next one in date order. repeat this.

Is there a REAL free binaries server?
I dont really think binaries-newsserver will be free, they cause and
cost traffic, with the server owner somehow has to pay...
Those two (BubbaNews/Terranews) listed above arent free, they cost a fee
for registration.
----
Ps: if i made anything wrong in posting, correct me please, because
these are my first minutes in a newsgroup ;)

I can see all headers by hitting "t" which is fine, but when I
go to the Score file, I don't see MessageID so I have
to type it in by hand. Is there a way to make it so that
when I go to K, E, -9999, A (Kill File, Edit, score -9999, All groups)
I see MessageId?
tks
