  [slrn] Spoiler?

Author: andrew
Date: Jul 21, 2008 16:09

Hi,

I came across the following:

MID: flpi143.ffdc.sbc.com>

which triggered a 'Spoilers visible!' alert in slrn. I have found the
relevant section of the manual:

http://www.slrn.org/manual/slrn-manual-6.html#spoiler_display_mode

but I am a little puzzled as to what is going on in this message
although I note the entry 6.102 spoiler_char above this that speaks of
"text preceded by a formfeed character".

  [annc] Dear Remoras

I haven't said this in a while, so I'd like to again thank all of you
remoras out there that have been supporting The Project's cause in their
postings around Usenet and in their sigs and filters and thoughts, and
comments at the site.

Also, do you prefer "remoras" or "remorae"? The latter makes you sound
even *more* special; naturally, you're special in either case. :)

  xnews scoring

Author: Steve IA
Date: Jul 21, 2008 03:26

I'm new to Xnews and scoring. I've read the manual, and read
the scoring.txt. file and tried over and over to score so that
I can allow 'joetest yahoo.com>, posting from GG, but
not see any other googlegroup posters. I've tried:

Score: -9999
Message-ID: .googlegroups\.com

Score: 9999
From: .joetest.
From:

in various combinations, but can't get it right.
An example or a link to directions for utter newbie will be
appreciated.

Why isn't this working? Is the pipe the correct or operator?

  Best news reader for Linux

Author: GrailKing
Date: Jul 20, 2008 17:03

All,

I'm trying out Linux and would like to know what would be the best
newsreader for ubuntu Linux?
On my window system I use and like NewsLeecher, but I think it's a window
only program; I started playing with Pan last night, but haven't tried
multi file binaries or Rar or Par files with it yet.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

  [Xnews] NZB & F8 & Keylogging

Author: Samantha Carter
Date: Jul 20, 2008 12:24

Hi,

I use Binsearch for NZB files and lately Xnews doesn't download
the files correctly. There are no errors with Xnews or XnewsQueue.
The subject line and the rest of the columns are displayed
correctly in the queue but when it starts decoding it names it
something completely different and the archive is corrupted too.
I have tried using 2 different providers and both had the same
results. Is this fixable?

Xnews is not saving the 'Catchup' settings when I hit F8. The
unread column goes to zero and I click save, but the next time I
open it, it resets all articles to unread.

Even though I know Xnews is a clean program, Threatfire says its
keylogging once in a while as its decoding. I checked my system
with 2 different programs and it came back clean. I know someone
else who had the same problem once in a while and he too said that
it was reported by Threatfire. Does it come from the way Xnews
handles something or is it possible the 2 programs missed
something? Anyone else use Threatfire with Xnews?
