IP IN APEWS? READ THIS BEFORE POSTING

Author: adam

You may be reading this because you found that
an IP address from which you send email is
included in a listing at "APEWS.org." Before you
post a message about that listing, read below.

"APEWS" is not known to be in use anywhere in
the world to reject email. In spite of their FAQ,
posting here, or anywhere, will have no effect
on your email, and neither will the "listing."

You need not be concerned about it. "APEWS"
is not a real blacklist. It is a hoax, ginned up to
take advantage of people who are not technically
sophisticated. If you post here, you may see responses
from this group which include dire warnings about
the consequences of the listing; disregard them.

If you have actually received a REJECT message
citing "APEWS," we will be very interested in
seeing that. Otherwise, you can safely go
about your business, and have a nice day!

He further says that APEWS is a "hoax." Of course, that, too, is mere
personal conjecture, based on no objective evidence. In all fairness, it's
hard to prove the non-existence of something, such as Bigfoot or UFOs.
Still, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Then the OP asks for any reject message you might receive pointing back to
APEWS. By asking for such information, the OP seems to be admitting that an
APEWS rejection is possible.

And as for "going about your business and having a nice day..."

Remember the old adage: "When someone says 'It's not about APEWS,' it's
about APEWS."

Perhaps not. But he's on to something. There are other strong
indicators that the list is little used, if at all. Mat Sullivan of
SORBS said only 3 people queried it from his mirror, for example. The
fact that they seemed to list 42%% of IP4 space is an easy indicator
that it's likely unusable for anyone who actually wants to receive
email, and by extension, this suggests that broad usage is unlikely. I
suspect there's more information floating around on that front, as
well.

Can you provide a cite? I can't find it and trying to search through
*anything* APEWS related is brutal because there are nine million
results returned. If you really want to be nice, please feel free to
email it in addition to posting it. This email address works.

I've summarized everything I've found on APEWS here: http://tinyurl.com/ynvxql

First off go and read the APEWS FAQ and you will see that posting your
removal request here is NOT going to help you no one here is APEWS
and can NOT remove this listing.

http://www.apews.org/?page=faq

A41:

" Note that posting messages in these newsgroups & lists will not have
any effect on APEWS listings, only the discontinuation of spam and/or
spam support will.
Abusing these newsgroups & lists by posting removal request you will
make a fool of yourself and are at risk to end up in additional
private blocklists, so think twice before posting."

Q42: My IP address/range is being listed by APEWS but I'm not a
spammer and I just signed up for this/these address(s). What can I do
to be removed from the list?
A42: APEWS is just an automated system, if spam or spam involvement
(hosting spammers, selling spamware) from your IP address/range
ceases, it will drop out of the list in time.

Ok Please read this before posting a removal request to
news.admin.net-abuse.email or news.admin.net-abuse.blocklisting

Try using this:

<URL:http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=reject+apews+first+message&as_ugroup=news...>

and in the thread "APEWS - E-217626 - Blocking a /17 with hundreds of
legit hosts."

<URL:http://groups.google.com/group/news.admin.net-abuse.email/browse_frm/thread/...#e8d211
76c112699b>

you'll find this article[0]:

<URL:http://groups.google.com/group/news.admin.net-abuse.email/msg/6863c287a4bde9f6...&>

which contains about the only confirmed mail rejection due to APEWS.

Since it was posted only a couple of weeks ago, if you have a local
spool, you should be able to find it by searching for
Message-ID: <1185910878.036424.213520@19g2000hsx.googlegroups.com>

I don't see a mail rejection message in the post. Only a claim that
70k users were being blocked.

So yes - there was a rejest. But as the poster says:
> So yes, I did have a message blocked by the APEWS listing. In this

So it is accurate to say that no one is able to cite a
system that CURRENTLY uses APEWS.
