Wondering how one can detect what IP addresses in many network prefixes are listed where...

Author: landonstewart

Hello,

I've tried using spfilter to download updated lists from SPEWS/
SpamHaus/UCEPROTECT etc but spfilter doesn't seem to be maintained any
more and a lot of the downloads don't work. From the ones I am able
to download I am using grepcidr to find the IP addresses on those
lists that are within our netblocks.

Is there a better way to do this? Does anyone know a more reliable
way to download these DNSBL's regularly? I need to download a lot of
them since not all the complaints about spam get sent to our abuse
address. I need to nuke the spammers that are eluding spam complaints
being sent to us or being tagged by spamtraps. I want to nuke all the
spammers detected with this method as well as the ones we receive
complaints about.

Well, it can be interpreted as a "get lost" rejection. Here are
my subtle changes to make the text more welcoming in tone and
eliminated unnecessary wordiness:

Your posting to the newsgroup news.admin.net-abuse.blocklisting
has been rejected because you are only asking to be removed
from a blocklist. This newsgroup has no association with any
particular blocklist, so it is not the correct place to ask
for removal. You are invited to post questions about why you
might be blocked, how to fix it, how to avoid getting blocked
again, to talk about blocklist policies and practices, or other
blocklist-related subjects. Information about what you must do to
get removed from a blocklist can be found on the website for the
blocklist. Please read the "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) at
<http://www.blocklisting.com/faq.html> for more information.

It's the difference between connotation and denotation. The
information is implicit, but it comes across to the careless reader as
"go away". That's why I'd like to see a few words to make it clear
that the poster is welcome despite the initial off-topic article.

Ok from the point of view of a German with basic knowledge of the
English language.

Which is why I'd like a brief paragraph in the boilerplate urging them
to post any on-topic questions they may have.

Except those resources keep coming & going & moving around. I don't
care to be committed to chasing them.
