Aah, my mistake, I just hadn't seen that particular form of
NewsAgent attack before, and I've filtered Bloxy enough that I never
thought to check on his address.

  RFD: remove misc.news.internet.announce moderated

Author: Jim Riley

REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
remove misc.news.internet.announce

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated
newsgroup misc.news.internet.announce.

RATIONALE: remove misc.news.internet.announce

The newsgroup has not had any approvals since September 1997. The
group was active for less than 2 years (November 1995 to September
1997). There were roughly 80%% fewer approvals in the last 12 months
than in the first 12 months.

It is unlikely that a revival as a moderated group could fulfill its
charter as a source of information for the conventional media about
the Internet.

The removal of misc.news.internet.announce would have NO effect on
misc.news.internet.discuss.

HISTORY:

The newsgroup misc.news.internet.announce was created in November
1995, along with the companion group misc.news.internet.discuss.

  [usenet] New form of attack - forgery/reposting

Author: Tim Skirvin

There's a new form of attack going on in news.groups right now.
It's a form of flood, with what appears to be word-shuffling amongst posts
in a given thread. The user names are forged, the path is pre-loaded (so
I can't see most of the forgeries based on my own posts), and the messages
are crossposted to a variety of news.admin.*-style groups.

A few sample posts:

<5oj5at$4at$4@sneakemail.com>
<760518FE.10468E3D@39.146.233.153>
127.0.0.7>
<421601254704854848801432253@77.23.2.40>

Thoughts? It looks like it's coming from a hacked PC, so
complaining to admins isn't going to do much good, but I still figured I'd
mention it for those that are interested.

news.admin.net-abuse.policy (NANAP) is a newsgroup for discussion of
policy regarding abuse of shared networks, or 'net-abuse'. It is a
robo-moderated forum, controlled by a moderation 'bot that automatically
approves anything that it thinks is an on-topic post.

HOW TO POST
===========

(This section assumes that you already know how to post to Usenet
newsgroups in general.)

As NANAP is a robomoderated forum, all messages must pass through the
moderation bot before they hit the network. Things that must be true for
the message to be approved:
