When did "Message" become a verb?

Hensarling announced that Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) was named the
RSC Communications Chairman.  Blackburn will lead media efforts and
develop a strategic plan to message conservative principles and educate
Americans about the legislation offered by Speaker Pelosi and her
caucus.

Using a cellie or chat client is what's called "messaging". So perhaps
she's going to log onto AIM or MSN Messenger, and tell everybody that
she's got "a l33t 'genda ur gonna <3". Totally rad!

"Message" can be a verb. Check anything but a basic dictionary and
you'll find it listed as both a noun and a verb.
