+++++++++++++++

"But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious Hand which
preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and
we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these
blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own."

I was working & couldn't pay attention to the content of the speech, but I
wasn't impressed by the delivery. The fact she went 20 minutes over
didn't help my impression any.

(while I don't think much of George W on most accounts, he's pretty good
at keeping a speech on time. A *LOT* better than either Clinton.
However, Obama managed to keep his keynote on schedule **within seconds**.
Not even W is that good.)

My offhand impression is that McCain will not be nearly as long-winded as
his running mate. Guess we'll find out tonight.

She learned well enough when she did the sports on TV. She can read a
teleprompter and look at a camera. Compared to Eddie Haskell the night
before, Foghorn Leghorn from TV's "Law and Odor, er Order" and Droopy
Lieberman, and all the President's (heh . . . hehe) speechs for the last
eight years, I'm sure Georg was extremely smitten.

yep, it's tough out-talking a sportscaster or a talk jockey.

Here follows the final paragraph of some interesting coverage of the
mis-speech during the Republic Con convention, so far.

Georg and Our Beloved Master Kent need not bother to read it.

"What's less clear about the GOP convention is whether the Republicans
are on to something, that perhaps the United States has crossed over
into a post-rational society that cares little about facts and reality
or serious policy ideas and respectful debate, but rather is a nation
moved by anger and ridicule, fear and nationalism."

One of the skills our Beloved Master Kent has Mastered is the ability
to stick his fingers in his ears, cover his eyes and sing at the top of
his voice "la la la la la I can't HEAR YOU!!!!!!"

Cop'. Saw it on the tube the other day. Great flick, great musi

Well, he didn't go quite as far over as Ms. Palin, but we would have
gotten better out of W... not sure I should blame Sen. McCain though, as
I understand the party actually scheduled him to go long.

I have to say, I remembered McCain as a better speaker. The
instant-on/instant-off smile is downright scary.

They know there will be applause. (judging from how the camera is able to
instantly locate someone holding a relevant banner every time the
candidate pauses, I have to think the applause is pretty much scripted as
much as everything else.)

Besides, it's not like nobody was cheering for Obama.

And vice-versa. IMHO Biden had the best speech of the bunch - kinda left
me wishing I could vote for him instead of Obama.
