Americans are using less gas than ever. We have no real leadership in
Congress. They have known for decades that India and China would eventually
begin to modernize throughout their whole society like we did in the 20th
century, and yet they have done nothing. Pelosi and Reid stood on the steps
of Capital Hill, and acted like they had done something great by increasing
fuel consumption standards in vehicles, but the measures are 10 years away.
Long after those two fossils are dead and gone, or being feed applesauce by
some home care provider once their marbles are gone. Democrats held the
power of the White House for 8 years, and have had close to 50%% of Congress,
and now are over the top since 2006, and they have held up energy bill after
energy bill. I watched the News Media on CNN, MSNBC, etc, and they were
just giddy and about to jump out of their chairs with glee that more people
were using mass transit. Yet, none of those people who push mass transit
for the little people, would be caught dead using it themselves. I've had
to use mass transit before, and its no fun, especially when it comes to
busses. You have to get their early, and then you can still end up waiting
a half hour, and sometimes those damn buses just pass you by deliberately so
you are stuck waiting another 30 to 45 minutes. I used to work at the
Capital and then lived across from Saint Thomas. When the starter had to be
replaced on my truck I used Nashville's mass transit. One day, I got so
sick and tired of waiting, I decided I could walk the 45 minutes to where I
lived, because I got tired of waiting in the rain for a bus and saw numerous
one's just pass my stop by. Unless you were a regular who used their system
every day, and they knew you, many of those bus drivers would not stop.

Again, I have used mass transit in New York City, and while it is great to
use there, you pick up pretty quick that the under 40 crowd predominantly
uses the subway, and older than that uses that buses simply because they are
safer. In your own vehicle you are no subject to some crazy pulling out a
machine gun like one did a few years back and shooting everyone one on the
mass transit up. You have a lot more self control.

But this is what the LIBTARDS want. More of the peasant class (even though
they won't come out and say it), dependent upon Government for
transportation, for energy, for healthcare. This was never a government the
founding Father's envisioned, and certainly not the one I want. Congress
got their highest Income Tax Revenue ever last year, and they love spending
the revenue that comes in. If they didn't they would pass the "Oil and Gas
Traders Oversight Act"
and protect us from the predators in the future's markets. President
Clinton new damn well he was passing a tax on us without representation when
he first went to mess with the OPEC markets back in 1999
(http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2001/3/20/190717.shtml), and
the US Congress is not eager to fix the problem. Conservation is just one
step, and I can guarantee you, I am not taking any drives in the country. I
fill up with just enough gas to get back and forth to work. Last year, I
got by on $20 to fill up half a tank that I need. Then this year I
increased to $30, soon it looks like I'll be spending $40. I haven't had a
full tank except for a couple of times I had to go out of town in the past
year. I eat at home as much as possible, and if I do eat out anymore, I
spend just under $4 dollars on a sub-sandwich, and don't buy the chips or
drinks that go with.

Basically, until gas prices go back down, I don't go to movies, I don't stay
in Hotels. I am not planning any significant trips to anywhere. I stay
home far more in my free time than what I used to. TV has literally gone
down the tubes, I don't care how many "High Def" TV's they come out with,
that is not on the budget; right now my New PC is more suitable to watch
"High Def" DVD's on, and I watch pretty much have my own personally library
of entertainment first put on tape and now converted to DVD. I replaced all
my traditional lights with CFLs, I use a ceramic space heater and humidifier
to keep two rooms of the house cozy in the winter time, and only use AC as a
luxury when it too warm to open the windows.

And now, even though I buy groceries and eat more at home than out, now the
prices of gas are affecting my groceries as well. Let's face it, the
Democrats haven't kept their promise to lower Gas prices if they were
elected to Congress. In fact, the prices have gone up under their watch.
They are no longer the party of the little person in society, they are the
party of the special interests and the Media Matter Loonie Toons Club, and
environmentalists whackos (you still have Al Gore beating the Global Warming
bandwagon despite the coldest winter in over 40 years, you had a record
number of deaths due to avalanche this past winter in the Western US, and
now data showing a Global cooling trend since 1998), and now they are
telling us our taxes are too low and they are not only going to let Bush's
tax cuts expire if they have their way, now they are after taxing the
Internet if they can do so
(http://news.slashdot.org/article.pl?no_d2=1&sid=08/04/15/2050253).

The way I see it, the Democrats and Liberals have gotten their way. Doesn't
matter who they elect in the fall, they'll have their liberal candidate in
charge, it just a matter of picking the person who least offends you. When
the Carter recession hit, I was fortunate to have my money invested in tax
free municipal bonds. Sure, not as much interest, but with Wall Street as
chaotic as it is, and myself in a position to start investing again after
9/11, there is where any significant investment of $25,000 or more is going,
until the Energy issue is resolved. They people who are going to be hurting
the worse, is the average Joe who lives pay-check to pay-check, and is one
of the 1 in 6 Americans who is currently in debt.

Mark my words, a big change in the way Government has been run is coming
within the next decade, and don't be surprised if you don't see
Conservatives leave the Republican Party as they once did the Democrats.
Obama speaks of change, but he just doesn't realize the kind of change
that's on the way.

"Our natural, inalienable rights are now considered to be a
dispensation from government, and freedom has never been so fragile, so
close to slipping from our grasp as it is at this moment." - Ronald Reagan
