"In the month since Eight Belles' ankles snapped at the Kentucky
Derby, at least 16 thoroughbreds have died at racetracks around the
country. Like Eight Belles, 15 suffered breakdowns and were
euthanized. One died of heatstroke. At least 800 horses die this way
every year at U.S. tracks."

Like I said, mix money and animals and the animals always lose.

At least we got bin Laden and the WMD, or this horrible war would have
been a total waste.

SNORT!

Why don't tracks have butchers? The crime is the wasting of perfectly
good thoroughbred meat! Horse is some tasty eating. While I'd like to
see some regulations on young horses running--it's not the worst crime
in animal husbandry, as long as the injured ones are quickly bolted
and put out of their miser
--then we process and eat them!

Oh? As in the immunizations and other veterinary care, discovered and
provided by humans, that improves and extends the lives of countless
animals?

When I was a kid, the life expectancy of a pet cat was seven years and
considerably less if it was a non-neutered male. Without spaying, a
female cat looked forward to a lifetime of pregnancy and giving birth
two to three times a year, every one of which was dangerous and could
lead to her death. Animals were plagued by fleas, ticks, mites, and
numerous other parasites.
