Hmmm. A bike tour downtown at 6pm on Friday the 13th. ISTR something
about "thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God".

(but it *is* a blast riding downtown on a weekend. The tourists are too
shocked at seeing a bike to bother with running you over.)

Yup, but it's a lot more fun doing it solo or with a small group of
responsible riders--instead of "critical massy" punks. I usually pass
through when I'm headed out on a 40 miler on my "old man" style fixed
gear (with brakes so I can actually ride over 20mph).

Don't you know how it's gonna end for you wild-eyed bicycle crazies?

Deputy Mayor hospitalized after bicycle accident
Mayor Karl Dean's top aide treated at Saint Thomas

Greg Hinote, Nashville's Deputy Mayor and former chief of staff to
Congressman Jim Cooper, was hospitalized earlier today following a
bicycling accident.

Hinote, who is also an owner of the Belle Meade bicycle shop Gran Fondo
Bicycles, was injured while riding this morning. According to
NashvillePost.com sources, Hinote fell while riding on a trail at a
Nashville park after hitting a patch of wet leaves. He was able to
return to his car under his own power and then drive to Saint Thomas
Hospital, where he later underwent surgery for a hip injury.

Contacted this evening by NashvillePost.com, Janel Lacy, spokeswoman
for Mayor Karl Dean, would only confirm an accident had occured and
that Hinote did go to the hospital
