Ever read "The Nation of Cowards"? It's a pretty good read
for a rant, but I think the author should have made every
other pot decaf.

I generally don't except when folks like Jim push. Killing
someone? That's something I'd rather not think about.

Not according to some experts. No offense, but I'd accept
their judgement over yours.

Really? How so.

Which possessions would those be? Not the single firearm I
own since I don't clean, shine, or call it either cuddly or
macho nicknames. It is a tool, an object, nothing more and
nothing less.

Yeah, but there are at least 100 here in Madison that could
replace 100 released felons in a New York minute. Actually
Madison isn't that crime ridden according to the Metro PD,
that would be the South District. But there's no where,
even gated communities, where crime doesn't happen. That
wasn't exactly a slum area where Nichole Brown Simpson was
killed.

The handicap has nothing to do with it although the
handicapped and the elderly (a catagory that I refuse to
enter regardless of my age) are the favorite targets of
goblins and loons. I maintain that any fight not involving
weapons beyond what the Maker gave each of us, mine will not
be the only blood on the ground although I'll probably lose,
mano a mano. Bladed weapons scare the hell out of me and
multiple assailants call for more a effective and efficient
weapon. I believe that to be a handgun, and it has to be
with me, not in a drawer at home.

Carry at times? How do you know which times? Most crimes
are random in time and place. Even the Shadow doesn't know,
only the criminals do ... sometimes.

I haven't listened to it yet, but I guess up front that
their best weapon was the element of surprise. There's one
story told about a woman traveling alone through part of the
SW desert. She stopped at a rest area and was confronted by
a burly truck driver with something more on his mind than a
game of Parcheesi. She pulled her revolver from her purse,
he quickly turned back to his truck, muttering, "Bitches
with guns! Bitches with guns!" She didn't fire the weapon
but she did report the incident to the state police.
