Police officer enforcing his own laws

Author: Paul Stevens
Date: Sep 22, 2007 03:14

From what had previously been posted in discussion forums,
the victim filed a formal complaint with the Knoxville PD
and waited for internal affairs to address the matter, before
contacting the newspaper.

It looks like the Knoxville PD has decided to deal with the
officer's attempt to enforce a law that doesn't exist, and
the officer's "rudeness" toward the victim, but seems to be
mostly ignoring the fact (backed up by the officer's in-car
video) that the officer threatened to manufacture a reason
to arrest the victim. I tend to view that threat as the
officer's most severe offense in the incident.

In case there's any confusion about the law the officer claimed
he was enforcing:

Also, a recent very publicized incident had a young man with his own
dash-cam recording the officers tirade and *same* repeated threats
that he would arest the young man on "manufactured" charges;

but it wasn't about gubs, so you prob'ly missed it~!

It happens as often as officers are willing to do the paperwork of
their manufactured charges. Most can't put 3 words together w/o help,
so that's why false arrest gets little publicity; but I agree: "I tend
to view that threat as the officer's most severe offense in the
incident."

I've been asked why I almost always carry concealed and I reply, "I don't
want to scare little old ladies of both sexes and I don't want to know the
first names of every rookie cop in a 10 mile radius." I guess I'll have to
strike the word "rookie" from now on. The young man knows the law, you know
the law, I know the law but there are at least two veteran cops in Knoxville
who don't. I expect that many Nashville cops don't have any better
knowledge of the carry permit law.

Narcissistic law enforcement officers are the primary reason the
citizenry should be armed IMO.

None of which deals with the Tennessee Handgun Carry law. How typical of
you to swerve off topic. BTW, I appreciate that you have promoted me from
mere master to a living deity. But even in my most egotistical moods, I
don't aspire that high.

In the meantime, I'm demoting you from novitiate to stable since you have
all that experience shoveling horse manure.

Self-appointed dictators apparently show up at all levels
of government.
