Reflecting on this, the second day of the Metro school year.
Okay, when the school zone sign says '15 mph', why do many instead go
just FIVE mph...until they get just past the crossing guard and then
zoom away, well above the limit? Average speed through the zone doesn't
change much. Slowing down to 15 and maintaining that speed until they
leave the zone would get them through just as quickly.
I don't even want to get started on the guards themselves. Suffice to
say, I've had words with the woman immortalized in this years 'You are
so Nashville, if....' feature ("You are afraid of the crossing guard at
the intersection of Fairfax and 24th Avenue.").

I have noticed the phenomenon that when I am in my Crossfire, if I go
over about eight miles per hour, crossing guards whistle at me to slow
down. Once I actually stopped and asked why I was whistled when I
wasn't going even close to 15 mph only to get a *duh* response.

Try downshifting a diesel, to keep the engine in the rpm range it's
happiest at, and watch the crossing guard go bananas, even though
you were at 15mph and downshifting is slowing you down.

because the Crossfire (isn't that Christian?) LOOKS like it's going fast.
