IDENTITY THEFT - STOLEN COMPUTERS
Some Thieves have personal information on
337,000 Davison County Voters? If they have
your full legal name, full social security
number, and postal address, do they have
DATE OF BIRTH?
I would think they would have the date of
birth if they have everything else.
This was a well plan job on Christmas day. I
have to ask what kind of security did they
have?

The same kind that the VA has.
However, news reports indicate that only the last four digits of SSN
were stolen. Which is bad enough because that's usually enough to
complete any transaction.

Which is why I never give my SNN to anyone, including goverment
"authorities" who claim they need it. I either adamantly refuse or,
if pressed and in a bind, I make one up.
(I've been fighting that battle for at least three decades now. Back
when I started refusing to part with personal info, people thought I
was nuts / paranoid. I continued to refuse to give out my SSN or
credit card info for "identification," pointing out that neither the
SSN or my credit card was meant to be an identification card. I
remember a few of the specific debates I got into on that matter - one
at the old Sears downtown on Lafayette in which the manager of the
store finally authorized my use of a check to pay for a purchase
without my providing either a credit card or SSN.)

Wasn't that optional? But often "optional" things are presented as
non-optional.
How about people who used to have their SSN printed on their checks?
Duh.

Early on, it was not optional, or at least that's what I was led to believe
from the argument at the DL office and news coverage from the time.
The howl that got set up led the lege to eventually see the error of its
way, if memory serves, and make it optional.

State law takes aim at ID theft
New protections go into effect Jan. 1
By SHEILA WISSNER
Staff Writer
Thieves intent on stealing your identity to do some
after-holiday shopping will have a tougher time of
it come New Year's Day.
That's when a new state law goes into effect to make
it harder for criminals to snatch Social Security
numbers.
