Absolutely. Used to be the airports had signs to that effect... at least
some of them did. Same for folks with metal hardware in various body parts.

Not sure if my watch qualifies as mechanical. It's not digital, but it is a
Citizen Eco-Drive and it came through just fine, or so it seems so far.

It does not seem to have affected the credit/debit cards we carry, but it
surely did affect that hotel key card and the clerk said, "Happens all the
time" when we told her we'd been to the aquarium. And, luckily, my camera is
digital, so even if it had affected it, all that would have happened was the
pictures on the memory stick would have been erased, and that was no great
loss.

As is usually the case for me these days... the things I really would like
to photograph are never convenient to a spot to stand for the best angles.
