From the April 14, 2008 Time Magazine:
"For the first time in history, we are no longer on top." Monsignor
Vittorio Formenti on new Vatican data indicating that Catholics are no
longer the world's largest religious group. Muslims now make up 19.2%%
of the population, while Catholics constitute 17.4%%.
[Gee, this couldn't have anything to do with the fact that Italy and
other traditionally Catholic countries have very low birth rates while
Muslim countries and Muslims in non-Muslim countries have considerably
higher birth rates?]

Gosh, we'd have to look at other factors, like the prevalence of conversion.
Roman Catholicism and Islam aren't genetic.
And I thought Roman Catholics traditionally had large families. In earlier,
anti-Catholic periods of our own history, they were accused of breeding
like rats, so they'd eventually overrun the country and take it from good,
moral Protestants.

Could have been worse. He might have said they were 'behind'...or maybe
opined that they were 'getting licked--or whipped'.
'Taking a pounding'?
How about 'just screwed'?
