Oh my word, yes... it's still in operation. Still running its sprinkler
system on its sweetheart land deal, while the water department tries to call
the sprinkler adjustment a "discount" and backload ALL their expected
revenue needs onto 29,000 customers. It's still using a temp agency to
"hire" and later on eliminate before eligibility for full time work kicks
in. Still exporting jobs to India, in spite of the DoD climbing its frame
after an Indian Call Center worker upbraided a DoD worker, also Indian, but
of a "lower caste," and explained that several of those jobs would be
brought back here or Dell could kiss that DoD contract goodbye.
Friends here wondered why I was not estatic when Dell announced they were
gracing Nashville with their presence. Your experience may be the same, but
I had friends working on contract in Tech Pub there, making $40 an hour and
more, who could not wait for their deal to be up so they could get out of
the company.
And that was when it was still a company where even janitors could, and did,
take advantage of a sweet employee stock plan and become "Dellionaires."
No mas.
