With higher oil prices, those priorities shift, consumers change their
buying habits, manufacturers shift production to more fuel efficient
vehicles, and the used market prices the current mix of vehicles in
the national fleet accordingly. It's occurring now, and it is working
VERY well.
Who the HELL needs or wants the government MANDATING (via CAFE or any
other regulatory scheme) what vehicles you can buy?

Sane: allowing the free market to dictate what personally owned
vehicles are produced. Insane: assigning that responsibility to
GOVERNMENT. Or have you forgotten what government is good at, and
what it sucks at?
