Sorry should have been May 4th on the CRAFT event here is the full
information - hope to see you there!
CRAFT: A Creative Community will hold its monthly "Sunday CRAFT Fair"
on Sunday, May 4, from 11 am to 5 pm in the rear parking lot of the
Lipstick Lounge in East Nashville. Local artisans will present and
sell original hand-crafted items and artwork at affordable prices. In
the advent of rain, the fair will be held the following Sunday, May
11, at the same time and location (11 am - 5 pm, 1400 Woodland
Street).
Each month, in addition to its Sunday fair, CRAFT spotlights several
artisans on its weblog,
http://craftacreativecommunity.blogspot.com/.
Featured artisans explain their craft in their own words, giving
insight into what, how, and why they create. This month's featured
artists, Kim Smith of White Cottage Design, Michelle Frank of Wicked
MoXie, and Valerie Herrell of Meretricious Creations, discuss how they
meld old and new inspiration into effortless style.
Kim Smith of White Cottage Design has been sewing "since forever", but
really was bitten by the design bug once her children were born.
Using fabric, needle, and thread – as well as a newfound favorite
medium, paint -- Smith designs and creates one-of-a-kind handbags,
aprons, and accessories that include composition notebook covers,
kids' coloring books, scarves, bottle carriers, office sets and more.
Each item is created one stitch at a time and may not be reproduced
again. In addition to the White Cottage Design booth at the May CRAFT
fair, look for Kim's other new venture, Par Deux Meres, a creative
partnership between Smith and fellow crafter Jodi Reeves of The
Creative Jar. Par Deux Meres' booth at the April 26th Franklin
Mamamade event will feature one of a kind hand painted "arm art"
available in limited series, signed and numbered.
By choosing materials that are re-used and recycled, Michelle Frank -
aka Wicked MoXie- creates unique, whimsical and eco friendly items.
The bold colors and kitschy accents make her creations a welcome break
from the seriousness of our modern world - little "stop-and-smell-the-
roses" moments for your ears, neck and fingers. Frank specializes in
bead collage jewelry, altered vinyl records, and hand-and-machine-
stitched cloth accessories. She also creates novelty buttons, mirrors,
magnets, keychains and jewelry from custom images. MoXie recently
left the corporate world to focus on her art full-time. Her latest
ventures include recycled fabric bags and a brand-new line of "Little
Pricks" Voodoo plush dolls.
Meretricious Creations creates vintage-inspired (or shall we say
divinely inspired?) artwork, jewelry, and home furnishings. In their
own words, "Too crafty to be artsy, too artsy to be crafty, we
straddle the line between good taste and gold lamé leopard print. When
we're not rockin' and/or rollin' we're making beautiful things out of
anything and everything we can get our grubby little hands on. Whether
it be vintage tchotchkes combined and revamped in an old cheese box or
hypertufas handcrafted to resembled old, hewn stone, or earrings made
from vintage buttons we have a passion for the look and feel of age.
We feel that the past should not slip away, that the quality and the
kitsch must not be forgotten. Rescuing and re-imagining old &
forgotten items is our passion!" In addition to their booth at CRAFT,
you can find Meretricious Creations at Neet Designs in Riverside
Village in East Nashville.

CRAFT's website,

information about upcoming events and their ever-growing roster of
participating artisans.
CRAFT is a network of artists and crafts people in the Middle
Tennessee area who have banded together to show and sell their work in
an atmosphere of fun and friendship, celebrating creativity. Drawing
their operating ethic from the simple maxim "Life is too short for
ugly stuff", the artisans of CRAFT: A Creative Community have
established the monthly Sunday Fair in order to promote and support
local craft, local artisans, and the spirit of community that nurtures
such creativity. With its Sunday Fair, CRAFT aims to establish craft
events that become part of the fabric of the community and that serve
as a "home base" for artisans to share original, handcrafted things of
beauty and functionality with the general public.
