Does anyone know why Nashville (and all of Middle Tennessee) does not
have Amtrak service?

I guess because you don't have google on your computer.
Using the term 'amtrak nashville' (no quotes), I get a 195,000 hits,
many of which lament the same issue. The Tennessean has lobbied for
Amtrak service consistently over the years. There have been resolutions
in the state legislature. When Louisville began service, there was talk
of extending it here, but their link closed in '03 after only four years.
One site opined that we might have used up too much Fed transportation
money already (on mega interstates maybe?).

Nashville doesn't rate quite as much as Newbern.
But I agree with KD. Nashville and Tennessee should have more going on in
the way of commuter train service. I have ridden the Train in from Mt
Juliet to LP Field. I can see great possibilities. There needs to be more
going on with all the existing track in Middle Tennessee. Rail Service from
Nashville to Atlanta would be wonderful.

At least we got bin Laden and the WMD, or this horrible war would have
been a total waste.

I have longed for a Big Orange Express. Imagine. Starting in
Memphis, crossing the plains into the valley, mounting the plateau,
and gathering steam to conquer the foothills. What a journey. Then
home again with someone else driving.

Godwin can kiss my ass; Nilsson trumps *everything*~!
At least Nashville has a chance to move into the future. I identitied
*5* rail lines that could be mass transit for Nashville One was a
double fork, but it covered the whole area to bring people to town.
Bellevue, Bordeaux, Lebanon, etc.

A large portion of that can be alleviated by rescheduling more of the
freight to nighttime. A box on a car doesn't just not care about how
fast it is going but also doesn't care about when it is travelling.
Again, as long as it gets there on schedule. This is slightly
complicated by the longer distances freight typically has to travel in
the US.
