Das Reisen zu Lande hat sich seit Urzeiten bis in die Mitte des 19.
Jahrhunderts nicht wesentlich geändert. Es war beschwerlich,
gefährlich, langsam und teuer. Erst ab der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts
trat mit der Eisenbahn eine radikale Änderung ein. Reisen wurde
bequem, sicher, schnell und erschwinglich für jedermann. Diese stille
Revolution wird in einem Vortrag von Dr. Hanspeter Rieder aus Nürnberg
anhand von zeitgenössischen Darstellungen der bildenden Kunst
nachvollzogen und vertieft.
