Michael Moore fans impatient to see 'Sicko'

By Jim Haug / Daytona Beach News-Journal

Michael Moore fans must feel like they have been denied treatment for the
pre-existing condition of living in Volusia and Flagler counties.

"Sicko," the ball-capped muckraker's expose on health care, opened June 29 but
has yet to come to a local theater.

It won't make it here this weekend either.

"I'm so irritated," said Maxine Kronick, a fan from Flalger Beach who appeared
in Moore's first film, "Roger and Me."

Kronick said she "called up the corporate office of Regal Cinema and screamed:
'Where's 'Sicko?' "

Theater owners say they're not trying to censor a politically charged movie
that promotes socialized medicine.

Of course I was just as pissed off as anyone else. I already knew
about all the problems with the EEUU health care system. I was just
simply stating that I've seen a lot of brilliant documentaries by
independent film makers and Micheal Moore's movies aren't any of them.

I'd classify Moore as a master of political rhetoric...who happens to be
right. He's not interested in doing traditional documentaries at all really.
Moore knows that if he did those kinds of films, he'd wind up as obscure as
they are. If the left is ever to get its message out to a wider audience,
it's going to have to get out of that academic mode used by Chomsky, Nader,
et. al.
