How To burn 3500 calories a day and not catch Fire

At the gym this morning the trainer had two fat women of Eastern European
origin. I think they were from Poland because the language they spoke to
each other did not compute as Deutsch or Czech.

Anyway, he had them running up and down the wide track until they were
sweating like dogs. One of them would grunt and squeal when she did the
exercises, and if you weren't looking you'd think you were listening to a
porno video.

Me, I did my blistering workout but limited myself to only two sets on about
75%% of the exercises. Mainly I was happy to get two strong sets of benches
with 195 pounds without reinjuring my left elbow. That's my Jack Daniels
elbow because I use my right hand to work the remote.

I also handled the 35 lb dumbells easily in lateral raises. Try that
sometime--but make sure you have a orthopedic surgeon in the family to
reattach your arms to your shoulders. (Legs and abdominals tomorrow,
although I did one strong set of abdominal crunches just for grins)

Curls went nicely today by keeping in time with one of the modern pop songs
that have at least one word in every verse bleeped out on the air.

My favorite song right now is "Letter to Me" by Brad Paisley (who also
happens to be my favorite musician). It's the story of a guy who's now in
his 30s and wishes he could write a letter and send it back in time to
himself when he was 17. He goes through all the different things that he
faced as a teenager, including thinking that the world was going to end
because a relationship with his girlfriend of 7 months is over and he hurts
so bad he feels like there's a knife sticking in his back. Sound familiar?
Teenage angst ... we've all gone through it at one time or another. He nails
it by saying, "I know at 17 it's hard to see past Friday night." And then he
proceeds to give advice such as "hug Aunt Rita every chance you get" (Brad's
Aunt Rita died last year), "be sure to stop completely...

It's the subject of the book I'm starting to write now, for a "Diseases"
series targeted at high schoolers. I have some great resources, but as
always, I really like to do as many personal interviews as possible. If you
have had a personal experience with a loved one or a friend who has suffered
from this disease (or bulimia), I would really like to hear from you. Please
email me at pj at pj parks dot com.

Thanks much!
