You fellas that are single could you fill me in on your lifestyles?
I want to know if you have apartments, rent hotel rooms or just live out of
your trucks. How many days off you take. What you do about relationships
with the females. Are there women out there that will accept a b/f with a
truckers lifestyle?
Also, I am curious about any of you that avoid restaurants, what kind of
appliances you may have (cooler, oven etc.). What foods do you eat?

I was OTR for several years and single. I rented an apartment during that
time. Here's one tax implication of living out of the truck permanently, it
makes you ineligible for the IRS transportation worker meal allowance, if
youuse it and are honest. That tax benefit allows you a fixed amount of
assumed living expense per day for each day you are required to be away from
home. The benefit is you can deduct that amount without keeping receipt,
just keep a log page to verify being away from home. If you have no fixed
address you aren't away from home. You may or may not want to use that tax
break but you will likely want to have a fixed address until you decide
about the tax break. Generally, receiving regular mail at the address is
proof enough it's your "domicile". It can be...

Stay away from the 12 volt drip coffee makers. They are very, very slow.
Mine took 45 minutes to make 4 cups of brown water that looked almost like
coffee in dim light but tasted like hot water.
I generally filled a thermos of coffee at truck stops and used a 12 volt
immersion heater to heat up coffee from the thermos.
If you get a big enough power inverter you can use a normal 120 volt coffee
maker in the truck.

It's my pleasure Eric. I could give more details but I recognize I tend to
go too long as it is and I try to keep under some control. Feel free to ask
more specific questions if they come to mind. Heck, with a little prep you
can do everything in the truck, including washing a small dog, if you need
to and not inconvenience or gross out anyone. BTW, a pump-up garden sprayer
works well for emergency showers and dog baths.
Many of the tasks of everyday living in the truck may be not as easy or
convenient as doing the same thing at home, but they can be done and done
responsibly. Many of these are things you may only need to do in an
emergency. For me, I found that once I worked out a way to do whatever I
may need to do in the truck, should it be necessary, it took *some* of the
inevitable stress out of the job.

That sounds like good advice. I had already found a lot of stuff by going to
amazon and searching "12 volt". They have a lot of stuff meant for marine, I
even saw a popcorn maker!
What company do you work for if I may ask?

I have two houses and a condo, the houses from a previous career and the
condo from inheritance.
The houses are rented out, and I have a bedwench in the condo that pays
expenses.

For the most part, I prefer to stay in my truck.
I could stay in motels once or twice a month if I chose, but it's no big
advantage to me.
I'm very comfortable in my truck.
Once I was in Alaska for a couple days, and I got a room over a bar. :-)

I take one day off a week, and anyone who says you can't, just wasn't
smart enough or productive enough.
I take them two or three days at a time.
