Tough logic with which to argue, I think.

A cursory look at a 12/12 HOS first suggests to me that the suggester
has not considered where all these trucks are going to be parked for
those extra 2 hours per day x 365 days per year, and hasn't noticed
that currently there isn't adequate space to park them for 10.

The suggestion that there is any HOS requirement to log any hours in
the sleeper berth is pretty good evidence the suggester is not as
familiar with the HOS as they might think.

Do away with ALL other HOS rules.

12 hours ON duty to include all time on lines 3 and 4. When you reach 12
hours total on duty, you must log 12 straight hours OFF duty. The 12 hours
OFF duty can be any combination of lines 1 and 2.

Wouldn't this be much safer and simpler than the current system?

Let's see:
Currently allowed 192 hours on duty in 8 days. (line 4 is unlimited
remember)
12/12 would drop that to 96 hours in 8 days (or 48 in 4, or 36 in 3, etc.)
that you are allowed to log ON duty. This is much safer for the time that
you are logged on line 3, which is the whole fricking POINT of the HOS regs!

34 hour restart? Redundant and GONE. You will never run out of hours now.
At worst you'll have to take a 12-hour break, but you know you will have
hours available after the 12 hour break.
