CNN) -- Sen. John McCain blasted the Bush administration and all
levels of government Thursday for the failed response to
Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
"We know we didn't have the right kind of leadership ... where
government agencies were getting information from watching cable
television rather than have a flow of information," McCain said
during an event at Xavier University in New Orleans.
"It was not only a perfect storm as far as its physical impact
... it was a perfect storm as far as the federal, state and local
governments' inability."
"Never again will there be a mismanaged natural disaster," he
said, later assuring the crowd that "it will never happen again
in this country; you have my commitment and my promise."

Sambora Pleads Guilty To Drunk Driving
Bon Jovi star Richie Sambora has plea bargained his way out of a potential
prison term after accepting he was guilty of drunk driving in Laguna Beach,
Calif., last month.
Facing up to six months behind bars at his arraignment in May, the rocker
pleaded no contest to driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher
in court on Tuesday.
As a result, a DUI charge was dismissed, together with a charge of child
endangerment for driving drunk with his daughter and her cousin as
passengers.
Prosecutors in the case refused to file the child endangerment charges,
despite prompting from Laguna Beach police officials.
Represented in court by Mel Gibson and Lindsay Lohan's former attorney,
Blair Berk, Sambora was ordered to pay fines and damages amounting an
estimated $1,600.
TMZ.com also reports the rocker will be placed on probation for three years
and must attend an alcohol education course

X-No-Archive: yes
If Wired.com readers are any indication, performance-enhancing drugs
are moving from the sports field into the office.
We're not talking steroids; we're talking brain steroids.
Surprisingly large numbers of people appear to be using brain-
enhancing drugs to work harder, longer and better. They're popping
pills normally prescribed for narcolepsy or attention-deficit disorder
to improve their performance at work and school.
"We aren't the teen clubbers popping uppers to get through a hard day
running a cash register after binge drinking," wrote a Ph.D. research
scientist who regularly takes a wakefulness drug called Provigil,
normally prescribed for narcolepsy. "We are responsible humans."
