U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people
By Laura MacInnis Tue Aug 28, 1:25 PM ET
GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States has 90 guns for every 100
citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a
report released on Tuesday said.

U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known
firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based
Graduate Institute of International Studies.
About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide
each year are purchased in the United States, it said.
"There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide.
Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per
10 people," it said.
India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an
estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the
military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there.
China, ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3
firearms per 100 people.

I thought everyone in Switzerland had to have a rifle or is it just
the men?

Those aren't "civilian" arms. That's the Swiss militia, and the rifles are
owned by the government.
However, there are a lot of privately owned firearms in Switzerland, as
well.

That seems low, at least for my area. Everybody owns a shotgun and a deer
rifle at bear minimum. Most everyone has a .22 for plinking varmints. Hell,
I've got six and I'm not into firearms. My neighbor has got about 50 and
that's just 'cause he loves hunting. My old boss has nearly 200, he collects
WWII weapons (only the really good friends get to see the 50cal)

As much as we have to listen to the constant blathering of peace-niks
and anti-gun liberal kooks, it's comforting to know that most among us
haven't forgotten the lessons of our founders.
Trying to do my part to make that a 600 to 100 ratio::
Colt AR-15
Ruger 10/22
Mossberg 590
Glock Model 26
Kimber Desert Warrior
FIE E22

So, because of just you and me, there are quite a few people that
statistically don't have firearms.

Certain minority populations interested in expanding the influence of
Sharia law, removing the US Constitution, and/or comitting "unsocial
acts" should take note of this fact.

On a more practical note, we should have taken notice that Iraq had 8
million AK-47s and thousands of tons of explosives, before invading
it.
When I said "we should have taken notice", I actually exclude myself,
because, in fact, I did publicly notice it, in this newsgroup prior to
the invasion.
