  $100/bbl Oil = Food Riots

"Soaring prices of staples -- which have risen about 75%% since 2005,
driven by growing demand, rising oil prices and the effects of global
warming -- have sparked riots in several countries, as people reel from
sticker shock and governments scramble to feed their people. Crowds
tore through three cities in the West African nation of Burkina Faso
late last week, burning government buildings and looting stores; when
officials tried to talk peace with one group of protesters, the
enraged crowd hurled stones at them. The riots followed similar
violent protests over food prices in Senegal and Mauritania earlier
this year. And, last October, protesters in India burned hundreds of
food-ration stores after stockpiles emptied, leaving thousands of
people unfed."

  Assault Weapons...time to buy?

Author: JR
Date: Mar 2, 2008 13:20

It seems the big three are all for gun control...McCain being the
least of the big three but never the less he owns no guns. That said I
have a few of the usual...SKS, one AK and one AR. I talked to a few
dealers this weekend and they are stocking up. One guy bought 27 AR's
and says they will be going for 3K instead of 1K after election and
the gun control freaks have their way. He would have got more but
finances limited him.
I can just about read the writing on the wall. Anyone esle thinking
about stocking up for fear or never being able to get a hold of one
after the "ban"? Looking online a kit will run you around 650 wiht
you assembling the lower receiver. Bushmaster and the others (same
manufacturer) are runnning about 850...Colts about 1100. I'm sure
anything in the asault category...

Amish alternatives to being on the grid

Author: Soldier in a Combat Zone

We talk about being able to work off the grid but it is the Amish who
do so daily. Have any of you seen Simply Amish furniture?
http://www.simplyamish.com/ The guy who started the company was
raised Amish but no longer follows the faith strictly. He built a
company that has his fellow Amish building furniture on their farms
(no factories).

What is interesting is how they power their tools. First off they
tend to use air powered tools as the compressor does not need to run
continuously. One farmer has a bank of batteries recharged by wind
power. He batteries are set up like battery back up (UPS) for main
frame computers. Float charging with massive inverters (DC to AC).
Others use those propane fueled generators that you can buy at Lowes
or Home Depot for emergency power for your home (10kw to 100kw).

One fellow has a horse powered generator that has the horse yoked to
something that looks like a millstone and walks in a circle all day.

We do not have the worst education system in the world. You severely
underestimate America.

With the T4C management program, it is possible to manage the data of
each individual citizen. Each citizen is free to visit the robot when it
chooses and as often as she likes. In most cases she reports for
milking more then 2 times a day, this results in yield increases of up
to 20%%. A milk quality control system ensures optimum control of udder
health and milk quality by means of color and conductivity
measurements.

According to the company, Lely's Astronaut milking robot ensures
complete handling of the milking process from pre-treatment, through
connecting the teat cups, up to (thanks to laser sensors) and

Here is a case in point on why you shouldn't be poking around with an
undetonated 155 round when you don't know what you're doing. These
guys were friendlies but not American soldiers. RIP
