Why "Diet" Soda Makes You Fat

Why "Diet" Soda Makes You Fat

Many people see diet soda is an innocuous, harmless beverage that
can't possibly cause any harm to their waistline since it doesn't
have any calories. Think again.

Research published this summer in the medical journal Circulation
shows that people who drink more than one soda a day -- whether
it's regular or diet -- have an almost 50 percent increased risk
for metabolic syndrome, which doubles their risk for heart disease
and diabetes.

Two years ago, a study at the University of Texas Health Science
Center found that there was a 41 percent increase in the risk for
being overweight for every single can of diet soda a person
consumed daily.

But how can something with no calories increase the risk for
obesity and heart disease?

There are several possible ways.

  Unique "Toy" ideas

Author: Paul
Date: Sep 18, 2008 12:19

Howdy,

Our 16 month old has a variety of toys. He has plastic blocks (forget
the namebrand, larger than legos) he can put together but he doesn't
seem all that interested. he really LOVES his books - he loves looking
through various books and pointing at characters and has learned to
say Emo (for Elmo) and Bob (for bob the builder)..

we bought him a simple dinosaur book for coloring with stickers in the
back and he just LOVES to take a sticker (with our help) and put it on
a page in the book.

this kid just loves his books. its funny.

He has some other typical toys like fisher price zoo set (zoo playset
with small plastic animals) musical table, xylophone.. he just doesnt
seem to have a fascination with them as with book fascination.

so i'm looking for some unique toys. i dont know what im looking for.
he seems to like details and seems to be bored easy with "simple"
toys. if that makes sense?

we're getting colorforms since that will have more "replay" value than
regular stickers.

The End of the Large Family ?

Author: Paul
Date: Sep 18, 2008 07:14

We pay close to $800 a month for daycare. About $200 a week, which is
pretty much the average where we live.

And that's for 1 child.

We're probably going to have another, which will double the cost but
hopefully just for 1-2 years until our DS goes into Kindergarten.

It just seems such a HUGE waste of money. We both work full time, have
a mortgage (in an area where taxes are $3k+ a year).

It's so expensive having a child, at least where we live, which is a
typical suburb outside of Philadelphia. Safe little family community
full of rowhomes built 60 years ago. Kids all around. Grade school
right down the block (literally).

It seems to me that where I live, in order to have 5 kids, not only to
both parents have to work, but they have to make more then $100k. 5
kids in Daycare that's like $2000 a month in Daycare. Unless you are
spacing each kid our 5 years apart so when one is in Kindergarten the
other is in Daycare.

Or you have a great family support system where someone can watch all
5 of your kids.

Is it EVER going to end?

Author: Paul
Date: Sep 17, 2008 09:54

http://www.kpho.com/news/17491186/detail.html

I can't read this stuff. Another kid abandoned in a dumpster.

When are we as a human race going to grow the heck up? I'm fed up with
people's lack of respect for human life. Enough already.

My god, you'd think we just walked out of the cave. You'd think people
were giving birth to alien monsters or something.

Sometimes I see us human beings do great things, and then the human
race goes and does this (not to mention all the other things the human
race does wrong).

A little baby. A little baby that never asked to be born. A little
baby that just wants to be cared for and loved. You know.

Is there REALLY any hope for the human race?

Getting close to 40, wondering if we should have a 2nd child?

Author: Paul

My wife and I met in our early 30's. Shame we didn't find each other
when we were younger, we would have had like 10 kids by now LOL.

So we had our first last year when I was 36 and she was 35.

We're thinking of having another in a year or two. I will be 38, 39
and DW 36, 37.

I hear about people having kids this age, even older. I know there are
risks.

I'm just curious as to what some of you think. Are the risks really as
bad as we are led to believe?

My thoughts on Vaccines and Autism

Author: Paul
Date: Sep 17, 2008 09:40

I think a lot of people forget about air pollution, all the stuff in
our water (the recent reports about drugs being found in it), the
plastics kids chew on and play with made in China, and things like
this.

I think it's easy for the less knowledgeable to just say "yes it's the
vaccines!" yet, it could be their genes, it could be because they
drink a lot, it could be for many other reasons too.

I'm not here to stick up for Vaccines, i just read about Offit putting
out a new book and I don't know who to believe , and not out to defend
him, again just sharing my thoughts.

It's not like the world we live in is in a pristine condition.
