Vox Pop is a progressive bookstore/coffeehouse/community space,
serving fair trade organic coffee and healthy food. We offer a
friendly work
environment, where coworkers and customers are treated with equal
respect. We work hard here, yes, but managers and coworkers agree
that itÂ’s rewarding, in a lot of ways: good tips, great live music,
author
events, political activism, healthy food at a discount, free coffee
for
coworkers, a discount on books, etc. The customers out here are mellow
(totally not Manhattan customers) and they really appreciate your
work.
The starting wage is $7.50 (but you keep all tips, which can at times
match
the wage per hour), and thereÂ’s lots of room for growth (the company
may
be rapidly expanding in the next year or two.)
We are looking to bring in a new team member, a “coworker” which here
means barista/counter-person/light cook. One year experience in high-
end coffee, food service, and great customer service skills are a
requirement. We're looking for positive, autonomous, certain, electric
people who can up-sell. We need people who are believers, people who
have strong values, people who can handle working in an at-times fast-
paced work environment. Must be a good multi-tasker, be spontaneous
and creative. We're committed to fair-trade coffee, healthy food,
books,
politics and live events. There's some light cooking, and a NYC
certificate
in Food Preparation is a big plus. Love of books and politics is
essential.
Must be able to start training immediately. This is not a work
opportunity
for just a "summer job". We require a commitment of a year or more.
