UK Permanent Residence = IFR for Application to be a Naturalised British?

Author: tangorama
Date: Dec 25, 2006 09:47

Dear all,

Merry Christmas!!! Had too much turkey for lunch... :-(

In summary, as a non-EEU citizen I married a EU citizen and obtained
the usual marriage visa. After 5 years, finally came around to apply
for permanent residency status via EEA4 application form back in Aug
2006. Wife is happy with her residence card which we obtained after
marriage and did not submit her application for ILR. I finally got my
passport back from the Home Office a few days before Christmas, with a
permanent residence sticker in my passport (woo-hoo!!).

Now the real question is, for the type of document I've been given, it
is a 10-year Permanent Residence Card, issued in November 2006, with no
restriction on my activities in UK (e.g. working, etc.). However, what
concerns me is that there is a renewal date in 10 years' time for the
PR card (Nov 2016)

Americans bringing spouse (and child) from abroad-watch out for this glitch

The provision for an American who has established residence abroad
(e.g. thru a UK Right of Abode, or simply thru dual Citizenship) to
bring a Spouse over, works as advertised (12 weeks maximum imposed by
Congress, (but this may **start** from when they issue a 'case no.',
--& they may take their sweet time -- and Medical, & Police record and
Tax Returns have been submitted)

But if you have a child born abroad, make sure he/she has American
citizenship 'transmitted'
The Amer. parent has to prove a number of yrs in the US before 14
(usually no prob) and 2 years after 14 (may well be a problem to prove
thi
-- keep expired passports carefully). In short apply for the
child's US passport sharpish, & then you will find out.
If not, make sure to process spouse and child applications
concurrently

US MyNetworkTV --> consumed by some Spanish language network?
So far MNTV does not have much viewable English language programming...

Observations
If they are doing all those English translated Tellynovellas ... they could
at least run TVNZ's Shortland Street + Home and Away + The Nebhors ...
Australian / NZ / Canadian immigrants get no programming from the US Free To
Air broadcast networks.
